This is my first cat who snuck out during her heat cycle before I had a chance to spay her and now we're having babies. Earlier this evening I noticed a large bubble coming out of her and believe it was her water. She was straining during that time.
After the water She stopped straining and just didn't seem to get comfortable. I put her in a quiet room with her birthing box, food and water, and she wants nothing to do with it. She just wants to be with me. Right now she is resting next to me and doesn't seem to be progressing at all, but won't let me out of her sight. Its been about 3 hours since what I thought was her water breaking.
She doesn't appear to be in distress or having contractions. When should I worry? Could the bubble have been her mucus plug? There was quite a bit of fluid that came with it?
I called the animal ER and they said to just allow more time but in a first time cat owner and worried. Please Send me your thoughts!! Thanks!

How is it going?+   The overalll rule is as your ER said, as long as she is fine and no distress, you can usually wait. Observe but you dont need to panic.

Good you are with her, it helps her much.  If she wants belly rubs, do so, its a sort of a healthy massage for them in this situation.

Please continue to report and ask!

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply. She had two sweet little babies at 5 this morning. Her water broke around 11 last night, but she did just fine. I'll try and figure out how to upload a picture.

Thank you! I'm hoping I did it right so you can see them. Mama is gray, one totally white baby and one tabby. Do I need to worry about her squsquishing them?

That white one may turn into a point, you will see it in several days or a couple of weeks.

Please, write down the time-table, from when you first saw this peculiar bubble till you were sure it was labor, and the first kitten come?

Congrats and Good luck!

At 8:58 pm on the 4th I noticed her first push. I'm assuming that was one of her first contractions. And would contact every 15-30 minutes. At 11:11 I noticed the large bubble that I assumed was her water and then nothing for several hours, no contractions, no pushing, just a little occasional water discharge with a little blood. I called the vet at 1:32 am on the 5th, worried because nothing had changed. Around 4:30 I noticed her pushing again about every 10-15 minutes. By 5 am she was pushing and contracting about every minute. Our first kitten came at 5:14 the second came at 5:23. It was such an incredible thing to witness! It amazed me how quickly her motherly instincts kicked in and she did everything text book!

Its apparently luck it did come a little later, so he had time to ripe up.  So allthough smallish it is apparently fully able to live.

Kittens dont manage well to not be "cooked well enough", as we see on the premature ones...

Thanks Lola, what are the chances of her having any more? Her tummy still feels a little hard on one side, but I'm not sure if that's just from the pregnancy. The new one, now that it's all dry looks close to the same weight as the other one it looks like.
