Now, my firstborn cat, with Horner's syndrome... we have a vet appointment tonight but still am crazy with worry (the little ******* insists on going outside - he has his own personalized door - and anything could have happened to him)
(that's him in healthy state)

so, I'm here begging for some supportive comments...

Both my cats had their eyelids showing too, one cat at a time. The vet said it was the common herpes virus (sounds a lot worse then it is) and to give them L-Lysine, which they wouldn't accept in the powder or paste form. So I found lysine 'treats' on Amazon. That did it! they cleared up in a week! So you might want to try that. Good luck, sounds like you already know what to do. His immune system must be a little down so rest wouldn't hurt him, although I'm sure he'll tell you different! Good luck!

thanks... he doesn't like any lysine treats (tried two brands), finicky little
. But I'll try dissolving the powder and get it down his throat (and everywhere else in my kitchen) with some liquids. He is a bit more quiet than usual  - hardly drew any of my blood with the indignity of popping a syringe in his mouth - but, although my Mom keeps telling me he led a good life (!), he's probably less than 9 years old and tested free of anything before so I'm still hopeful.

thankful for any support... keep it coming, please!

so we went to see the vet. Rascal sure thinks it was a waste of time... first he didn't want to go into his carrier, then didn't want to come out and bawled pitifully the whole time (even the dog persons waiting were moved)
.

They did focus on the eyes at first and will consider internal and neurological stuff if he gets worse. Now clearly both eyes are affected, and he can't move his third eyelid down, isn't it his nerves we should look at?
 Well, I'm not a vet.

They put him under mild sedation
and did some eye and tear tests which came out ok (at least he doesn't have anything pushing at his eyes from the inside
), flushed both eyes out and thought there could be a bit of inflammation so they shot him full of antibiotics. I'm to give him more twice daily, plus eye ointment, and hope he improves.

Worst thing (for Rascal, that is) is the e-collar he has to wear until Sunday.

Now, does anyone any suggestions how to soothe a cat that thought it dominated the planet until an e-collar was put on him?

His little bro's, who used to shoo away at one of his glares, now come and make fun of him... I put him into the guest room again so at least he doesn't have to suffer from too much humiliation.
