I hope this isn't against the rules for this site to ask but my 4.5-5 month old kitten has been having loose stools and gas. My in laws came for a visit and gave both my boys cow milk not realizing it's a no-no. My 5 year old got over his loose stools from it fairly quickly but my little one is still having issues. Plus the GAS! I'm looking for suggestions to help that I might have laying around the house since money is tight until next week. (At which point if he was still having issues I'll have him at the vet!) I've tried some probiotics but it doesn't seem to do much for him, though it did help my oldest.

Just realized I posted this in nutrition. I meant to put it in health! (Though I guess either might be ok??) I'm on a phone so sometimes I can't see what I'm clicking!

How long ago did he drink the cow's milk?  Usually the adults have more issues with cows milk than the kittens.

Over the weekend. I would have thought it would have resolved by now but no luck. Oliver's stools are fully formed again (they got a little soft for a bit) while Pinball's went from diarrhea to "formed but really soft" with just a little liquid. Noting though that Oliver is my picky cat and probably only took a couple laps before he decided he didn't want it. Pinball who is my feral (Though not at heart! He's coming around to the idea of being a cuddly house cat :heart3:) from the streets and eats anything put in front of him probably consumed a LOT!

First of all, it's definitely NOT against the rules to ask about stuff like this.  It's one of the main reasons we're here

Second, it sounds like Pinball is slowly recovering, but I'm surprised it's taking this long.  Did your in-laws sneak him something else too?  If you have any plain yogurt around the house, you could see if he'll eat some.  That always worked surprisingly well for my little ones anytime they got loose stools.  I would just put some on my finger and let them lick it off and usually that was enough.

What are you feeding him?  The more bland food you can give him, the better, although since he's a kitten, you don't want to mess with his nutrition for long.  But you could give him just plain poached boneless chicken breast and white rice boiled in the same water for a meal or two to see if that helps.  I wouldn't give this more than just a day or two though, since it's not 100% nutritionally complete and he is still growing

He eats raw and canned. He's been eating mostly raw chicken to sooth his tummy. Idk of any other foods aside from them also putting out a huge bowl of wet/dry which both gorged on which I'm sure also didn't help. I only use kibble as snacks. Never more than a tablespoon per cat per day and not every day. They mixed like 1 cup with a 3oz can of food with a side bowl of milk. *dies*

When you say you are feeding him mostly raw chicken to sooth his tummy, are you including some form of calcium in that chicken?  If not, that could be the problem.  Too much calcium can cause constipation, so I'm guessing that not enough can cause loose stools
Not sure though.  But it's a thought.  But I'm hoping that's not the case anyway, and you're not feeding him just the raw muscle meat with no added organs or calcium, at least not for long.  (believe it or not, with the above suggestion of cooked chicken and rice, the rice contains calcium
)

So...are his stools firming up yet?  Do you have any Slippery Elm Bark around the house?  If so, you can always make SEB syrup and give that to him as well.

He gets muscle meats, organs and bones. He has had 0 problems with anything I've ever fed him until the in laws gave him the milk so I know it's that. I'm just trying to keep things simple just to see if it makes a difference. I don't have any SEB on hand. They're better than when we started but still soft.
