I foster cats for a rescue and currently have an expecting momma. She is a young little tortie girl, estimated to be around 6-8 months old. She weighed in at only a little over 4 lbs when we pulled her 2 weeks ago. Usually the shelter we pull from (a high kill shelter) spays pregnant cats before we even know they are there and pregnant, but this little one was sick and was not spayed before being released to us. Then we realized she was pregnant. She is now healthy and over her URI and conjunctivitis, thankfully.
I have had dozens of orphan bottle babies, lots of moms with litters, and cats of all ages fostered in my home over the last few years but never had a cat give birth here. We are actually hoping to get her moved to another foster before she gives birth but are not sure if that is possible unless a foster comes available very soon (I usually foster sick cats for the week or two it takes to get them over a URI and since she is residing in my foster room, I wouldn't be able to pull any more until her and babies were adopted out, and that would be 8-9 weeks after giving birth, so that isn't ideal as far as saving as many as possible from the shelter is concerned- but she will stay here if another foster can't be found.)
So my question is basically if anyone has any idea how far along she is.
We have had her slightly over 2 weeks. Her belly has doubled in size and she has put on several pounds, but part of that is because she was underweight when pulled from the shelter.
I noticed about 6 days ago when feeling her belly that her milk was starting to come in. It is now even more pronounced.
As of yesterday all the hair around her nipples has fallen out.
I can't tell if she is nesting per say because she is a bit reclusive as it is, and has many little hiding spots in beds and carriers I have provided for her in her room. She is a very affectionate cat though and loves attention and petting when I am in the room, but refuses to leave the room for anything, even if I leave the door open. If I carry her out, she freaks and runs back in, this has been going on since she arrived.
Any ideas as to an estimate would be appreciated! I know nobody can know for sure, but I'd love to hear some thoughts
