I am new here, and this is my first comment on anything.. 2 nights ago our farm cat gave birth to 3 kittens in our burn pile. I new she was getting close because she was getting more and more persistent on wanting inside. I got her to come out of the nest she had made with some coaxing of food. And was able to get all the kittens. I showed momma I had them and she followed me back to the house. I was able to get her inside and in the basement in our laundry room. I made a nest in a laundry basket with a heating pad under the blankets and I used puppy pads on top so I can change them out. This is my first at having kittens. So I do not know allot. Momma settled in downstairs.. She is used to being outside, as she has never spent a night indoors ever. She was wild when she showed up here, and became more and more tame. She seems to be a first time mom, she is only leaving them to eat and she won't use a litter box at all. She comes upstairs and meows at the door to go outside. Could not have asked for a better cat. We call her momma kitty, since we don't normally name the few cats that do show up. We live in the country in north east Nebraska, and we get allot of cats.. Some are dropped off, some are wild and pass thru. And then we have 3 that have decided to stick around. We feed them, and in the winter we provide blankets with a heat source. Anyways momma and babies seem to be doing good. It has been not quit 48 hours since birth. And since I didn't see her have them I don't have a time. Just no that Sunday night she was pregnant and Monday morning she had a wet tail and def had just had babies. It took me awhile of spying to get her to show me where they were. But once I found the spot she walked right in.

Hi, I am new to this site as well as new to baby kittens and taking care of momma. All the reading I have done is contradicting. What is normal for a first time momma as for bleeding after birth. How long will she bleed and what is a normal amount? She is 3 days post birth and kittens are doing very we'll. momma is great to.

I notice just a small spot of blood every time I change out the puppy pads that I have been using to line the nest. I know that some blood is normal. And she is not bleeding allot. Just a very small amount. How many days will she bleed for? I have read that 3 to 4 days is normal, also I know that she will be in heat too. Any advice would be great.. Thank you

I just talked with my vet Saturday about my Sassy bleeding. He said as long as it's not an excessive amount it's normal for the first week for them to bleed. Your picture looks to be about the same amount Sassy bleeds here and there.

Thank you everyone. It has been a busy week here. The bleeding has stopped. And she is now wanting out side more and more. Spending more time away from the babies. Not sure if that's normal, but she always comes back. Today she was out for over an hour. And I called her and nothing, so I went and got one of the babies and brought it out with me. She came a running as soon as she heard it cry. Not sure if it was the right thing to do, but it worked. And she trust me with them, she let's me hold them and I can now change the bedding and she don't meow at me like she did at first. The kittens have doubled in size, and are becoming little Rollie pollies. Can't wait tell they get a little bigger so we can watch them play. We have town 2 Chihuahua's who are friends.. They play with the momma and the other two cats that are out side. It's gonna be a slow introduction though.
