I have a diabetic feline who is vomiting. I had 2 felines who just got over a stomach virus and now Buster Brown, my diabetic feline has it.

I just checked his glucose. It was 432. He has been high. He has no ketones. My problem he's not eating. He's on Lantus 4 units once a day. I was wondering should I give him the full dose or half. I was thinking half and if he should eat and keep it down then give him the other half.
Any advice?

t run into the same problem from time to time. Same dose lantus. I give a smaller dose along with a bit of pepcid ac to settle the stomach, then if he eats within an hour, I give him the rest. If he doesn't eat, or throws up, I don't give the rest of the dose. My cat bottomed out once after his injection and then vomiting a large amount of food. 432 is high. A full dose of lantus probably wouldn't put your cat in insulin shock, but it would put your cat through a very steep glucose curve.

Well I was up all night with him. He's still under the weather. His blood glucose this morning was 320. No ketones. He's alert. Last night I tried syringing him and he vomited. I did get him to lick some tuna. If he's still not wanting to eat his normal can food we will be going to the E.R.

Great news. Hope it stays down.
Thank You!!! I was so scared he would crash. I had a diabetic feline, 10 yrs ago, who did crash and went into a full blown seizure. I never want to see that again!!!!! I stayed up with him. My husband who does love them went to bed. He feels he knows nothing and since I was in nursing for 20 yrs I'm experienced. Felines are like human babies. They can't tell you what's going on.

Totally agree! Which is why, IMO, veterinarians and pediatricians are of the best doctors. They have nothing to go on but symptoms and diagnostics.

Anyway, I digress. I'm glad to read that Buster Brown is okay.
