My cat Elle died yesterday afternoon. She was 20.4 years. old age was the cause. as she lay dying she made an odd sound 3 or 4 times. it was like a bark (like a dog bark). was she in pain? did pain cause her to make this sound? i don't know what to make of this. still crying & my heart is shattered.  anyone have any idea about this?

Tears on my cheeks.

I am so sorry.  Over 20 years--Elle was clearly well loved and well cared for.  I can't answer about the sounds she was making.  But I wanted to express my condolences.  It is so hard to lose a beloved companion.

I'm very sorry for your loss. It must be so difficult to part with your longtime companion. :rbheart:

I don't know what the sounds she made were, but at a guess she may have lost the ability to swallow or cough, so saliva accumulated in her lungs.

I'm so sorry for your loss :rbheart: RIP Beautiful Elle :rbheart: Run free at rainbow bridge :rbheart:

I don't know what the sounds were either but I would guess the same as @jcat. She was probably trying to cough but had lost the ability to do this properly, so it sounded more like a bark.

I'm so sorry for your loss, @maureen29
Wow...20+ years...how well you took care of her! It's never easy to lose a beloved pet, but even more difficult when they've been there for you through it all for so many years. Elle knew how much she was loved.

Rest in peace, sweet girl.

I'm so very sorry for your loss, it does take a long time to mend a broken heart. You shared your love for over twenty years with Elle, she was a big part of your life. She was so lucky to have you in her life, she was obviously loved and cherished. Please know we will all mourn your loss, and remember that Elle would want you to rejoice in your love, not to remember her with pain and sadness.  The tears will turn to smiles in time, she will live on forever in your heart. RIP beautiful Elle!
