Hello,

My name is Mickey, I'm a 23 year old Canadian and I am new to the site. I joined to ask for advice on a small kitten I rescued from a BYB (who is doing good now thanks to the help from other members on this forum)

I grew up in a household that almost always had at least 6 cats in it. My family has always been super big on animals, and animal rescue. I was even on the board of a horse rescue with my mom for several years. I love all animals, but cats have always been special to me.

I had a little black cat named Salem from the time I was 7 till I was 15. When I moved houses, he escaped and went missing. We later found out that he had been attacked and killed by coyotes. I was completely heart broken, and until I was 19 didn't own another cat. I felt no cat could ever fill the hole Salem had left in my life

On my 19th birthday, my mom took me out to this farm house out in the boonies. She didn't tell me why, just that it was a birthday surprise. When we got there, there were these two black kittens that a older couple had rescued along with their mother as their previous owner abandoned them despite the cat being pregnant and it being January.

I ended up walking out of there with one of the kittens/ I named him Holmes and he's been with me ever since.

Despite his rocky start, he is now, as you can see, a extremely happy healthy cat. He is also MASSIVE. The cat you can see in the back ground of the one photo, is a normal sized cat. Holmes is a very large cat.

He doesn't like strangers and hides when ever company is over. When I first brought him home as a kitten, he hid under my dresser for two days. I spent the majority of those two days, sitting on the floor by the dresser waiting for him to come out. We've been best buds ever since.

However he is a cat, who needs another cat to play with. He was really lonely all the time despite me spending all my time with him. So I ended up going out and getting him a pal.

This is how Watson came into my life. I got him from a animal hoarder when he was a kitten. The lady who had him, let her little daughter torment him, so he had a lot of trust issues (and still does). Him and Holmes fought a little bit at first, but now they're inseperable. When Watson went over night to the vets to get fixed etc, Holmes spent the whole time looking for him and crying.

Watson like Holmes, does not like strange people and hides a lot. He HATES being made to stay still for even a second, so he'd not exactly cuddly. He gets these old bursts of energy and likes to tear around the house a lot.
At this point I decided no more cats. These two are it. No more.... yeah that didn't happen haha.

Around 6 months after I got Watson, I came into some money. At the same time my mom sent me this ad about this breeder in Alberta selling Ragdoll/Scottish fold/munchkin kittens. Those are all my favorite breeds of cats. This was my dream kitten, and I had the money to afford it. So after a month or so of talking back and forth to the breeder, Kaeda was brought into my house.

Kaeda is a people cat. She loves everyone, and everyone ends up falling in love with her (even if they hate cats). She is the cuddliest cat you'll ever meet. I was so happy with her...but then a problem arose. Kaeda is terrified of my two other cats.

She had NEVER seen a normal sized cat before in her life. The place she lived before was only munchkin cats. So when she saw Watson and Holmes she freaked out. Of course my other two cats, despite being friendly cats, did not respond well to this kitten hissing, snarling and what not at them. They bully her a lot, and she just hides. I always stop them and try to keep some space between them. In the I've been working with them, and progess is slow but steady.

It really breaks my heart how lonely and scared she looks when she sees Holmes and Watson playing together. I hope one day she will be able to get along with the other two.

So at this point I was like 'Okay for sure no more cats.' and I stuck to that...until two days ago.

My best friend's birthday is coming up (tomorrow actually) and for her birthday me and her boyfriend decided to get her the cat she's been wanting for ages. She is crazy about cats, and sadly had to leave her own cat back with her parents as the first place they were living in didn't allow pets. They just moved into a new place a few months ago, and they kept putting off asking if they could have a cat. So I went and asked for them, so I could get her this surprise kitten for her birthday.

I was looking at kittens, and I saw this ad for Bengal cross kittens. The pictures were more then a little heart breaking. So I ended up calling the lady and she showed up in this cramped little car with her dog and a single cat carrier full of six kittens The kittens were miserable. They smelled bad,and had been in that carrier all day with no food or water.. I really couldn't just leave them, and let them go to a home where they probably won't be looked after right. That lady didn't even really know the names and phone numbers of the people who she was selling them to. I could only get one, the rest were all sold to other people

.
And that's how I ended up with Felix. He's doing a lot better now. The lady had been feeding him and the others carnation milk along with cheap dollar store wet food. He's skin and bones. Also he's only 4 weeks old, not the 6 weeks she told me he was. Even then, that's too early for him to be on his own like this.

He has already managed to terrorize the other three cats in my house. Within half an hour of him being home, he managed to escape my room and chase Holmes and Watson into my roommates room, then trapped Holmes in a corner under the bed.

I think he'll be just fine. He's eating well now, and he looks a million times better then he did. He's playing well (in fact he's trying to 'attack' me while I'm typing this haha) and the vet says there will be no permanent side effects.

So that is how I went from not having or wanting any cats, to have four cats with extremely strong personalites. Sorry for the long intro post, but I hope it was at least sort of interesting to read!

Hi @mouseysmonsters  . Welcome to you and your fur-gang to TCS!

Your cats are gorgeous
l love the little Foldie-munchkin's colouring. (My black Smoke Foldie is my avatar pic).

l feel for her not getting along with the other two, especially if they were closely bonded before her arrival. My Foldie is the odd man out here, although it doesn't seem to faze him much.

Poor little Felix, l'm glad you're giving him a good home. What is the minimum age a kitten can be sold in BC? It's minimum 8 weeks here in Ontario, l thought it was the same across the country. l'd report the BYB who had the kittens if l were in your shoes, but l'm not
At least one of them is getting a good life.

lt's good to have you here. l'll look forward to many updates and pictures of your clan
