Morning everyone!

It's a somewhat chilly morning today. I am so looking forward to the day where I can wear my flip flips and t-shirts without a jacket! I also got my pool pass in the mail yesterday! Can't wait!

My question is.. do you prefer swimming in a public pool, or the ocean/lake?

I much prefer water that I can see in vs water I can't.  Here on the coast of GA, we can't see well in the ocean.  My understanding is that we have the largest shark nurseries on the eastern seaboard, but I can't remember the last shark attack (other than dogs). But, the beach is free and stand-up paddle boarding really interests me so I'll get over my fears soon enough.

My absolute favorite is a saltwater pool.  But those are rare due to the expensive set up.  We have a public pool here, and I've thought about joining it.  It's near the lighthouse and overlooks the ocean.

We have an in-ground pool in the back yard, so we stay around the house for swimming. Our pool is not real big or fancy, but it cools us off when it's really hot and humid. Its depth varies, from 4 to 8 feet. Rick is not a strong swimmer, but he manages to get into the "deep" end and paddle around.

I don't prefer to swim. :lol3: :lol2: BUT, for sure the ocean but will only go in so far. Worried about what might be lurking about. :lol2:

I prefer someone's backyard pool.
I'm not a fan of myself in a bathing suit.  I don't mind the ocean and I grew up swimming in lakes too.  We don't really have public pools here; probably because we have the ocean pretty close.  I learned to swim in one of the public pools my home town had.  It's just nice to enjoy the quiet and privacy of a home pool.  If I had one; I'd be in it every day during the warm months.  I'm not sure we can put one in here; having a septic system.  I think we'd need a big bigger yard to avoid drain fields and things.
But I do love to be in the water.  I'll even get in my kid's pool with them.

I haven't been in any type of water for years.  When I was a kid we always went to the Jersey Shore and I loved playing in the ocean, nothing like it, just loved those waves.

Later when I was much older, I preferred going to a nearby lake, it was really beautiful and calm.  Nowadays, I don't even own a swim suit.

Like LaRussa I don't even own a suit. I too used to swim all the time when i was a kid, at the local pool and the lake. Maybe when I'm 70 I won't care what I look like in a suit anymore and go!

Love swimming and love it best outdoors but it has to be in a heated pool!  I have this thing about not knowing what's in the water.... think it started with a children's poem by Edward Lear about a 'Pobble' who had no toes because they got bitten off by fish!   Then I got my foot caught in something swimming in a man made lake when I was 4.  Iended up with a nasty cut and life long scar on the top of my foot.  Of course at 4 I had a really good imagination and 2 brothers to wind me up so believed I'd been bitten by a shark.

My dad used to refer to me as "the fish".  I've always loved swimming.

In general, I prefer natural water over chlorinated.  Oceans and lakes for me.

Of course, there are "things" one needs to be wary of in natural waters, but as long as one is aware of the water source and environment, in my opinion it can't be beat.

Unfortunately, I now live in a desert, far from the oceans and lakes of my upbringing.

So, chlorinated pools it is.  I tend to stick to friends' private pools over public.

I've been to a saltwater pool once at a pool party... it was pretty awesome... even had sand in the bottom of it.

Pool works for me, but don't get to one too often. Never was much of a beach lover, just hate bringing home the sand, etc.

I haven't seen my bathing suit in years. The last time I wore it was six or seven years ago when we went to Myrtle Beach. I faded it sitting in the hot tub. I might would go in a back yard pool, depending on who was there. I don't do ocean or rivers because I wonder what else is swimming around down there. :lol3:

I prefer a pool, generally speaking. But if I go to the beach (haven't been able to go for years now), I'll go in the ocean even if there is a pool available. If there are waves. Otherwise it seems sort of pointless. I like to play in the crashing waves.
