So, my profile photo here on TCS  is me with hubby who's dressed as a dog.  We participate every year in our local SPCA's "Wag 'n Walk".  It's a fundraiser for locals who walk their dogs along the beach front, and raise money for the SPCA.  It typically raises around $100,000 or so.  Of course, we're 'cat people' and don't have a dog to walk so hubby goes as one!

Good for you, Betsy.  That's an amazing mask!!

You look like you should have entered the surprised cat photo comp as a self portrait!

How can you see at all?

yeah, it DOES look like a surprised expression!

The dark spots under the eyes are actually eyeholes.  So i can see straight ahead, but no peripheral vision.  We'll see if I can modify it to make it safe to walk in.

looks great!

I wonder if you can cut the entire eyes out and replace it with dark mesh, and use paint to color the eyes in? You know, those costumes that has mesh eyes?

That's a great idea!  Thank you!
The current eyes are a little scary anyway.

We have fun with this event.  The first year we did it, Duke wore ears, a nose and a tail attached to his jeans.

The next year, I carried a Pete the Cat doll (Duke made the little backpack for him out of a fuzzy sock).  So cute.

Then the next year, we got the full dog costume.  Duke had recently had hip surgery, but walked anyway!  What a guy.  (don't know the guy on the right, he just started up a conversation with us).

That is some dedication, and a great progression on the costume front!   That little back pack for Pete the cat doll is just too cuuuuute.

So....I opted to not wear the mask.  With my arm still in a sling, I decided it was just too risky to wear something I couldn't really see clearly out of.  Last thing I need is another fall!

Duke had to sit it out--he's still dealing with hip/back problems.  But he drove me, my mom and her partner to the event and hung out, people and dog watching, while we walked.  My sis and bro-in-law drove over from their town a few miles away and she brought the cutest 'cat hats' for us to wear.  We had fun and our team raised $625 for the SPCA.  We didn't get to do as much fundraising this year since I've been kind of incapacitated, and Duke's been busy babysitting me and all the kitties while I recuperate.  But still, we got in some donations and it was fun for me walking with my family.

My bro-in-law, me, Rass (my mom's 96 year old companion), Jackie (my mom, who's going strong at 84), and my sis:

Me, Rass and Mom with our cat hats:

Mom and Rass at finish line.  Rass used his walker but my bro-in-law told him it's not a walker, it's a Rollinator (because walkers are for old people)

Note the stylish tail....

You all look amazing!  Very sensible of you not to risk another fall, and that cat costume can always happen another year.  The hats, and of course that tail of yours, were good fun and it meant your mum and Rass looked perfect walking along with you.
Your mum looks fantastic and quite at home out walking with her bottles of water and trainers on!  What I can't believe is that Rass is 96!

Looks like an amazing day. I hope the event raised a good amount of money again.

Just one question - where was the dog you were all out walking with?  No photos of him this year?

The big dog had to sit it out this year.  Duke still has problems with his hips/back and sometimes can't do much walking.  He came to the park with us and the SPCA people took a team photo of all four of us, so when I get that, I'll post.  :-)

Rass is amazing--he and my mom got together after my dad passed a few years ago.  I'd been friends with him for years and introduced them.  They live on my mom's farm out in the country, off the grid--solar power, water well, etc.  They raise chickens, have a vegetable garden, small orchard, they have a pet sheep, one old dog, and two rescue donkeys!  They are both amazing people--physically strong and mentally sharp, optimistic and active.  I admire them both tremendously.

I look forward to seeing Duke in his outfit!  Shame he couldn't walk a bit but the dressing up is way important too as it will add to the atmosphere of the day.

Your mum and Rass do sound amazing, and great that she has found this life to follow on after loosing your dad - well done you!  Their life style sounds incredible. Long may it all continue.
