Hey everyone - So here I am, day 5 at home with my new kitten, and he's adjusting well for the most part, excepting some litter problems we're working on.

He's a good little guy who likes playing with his ball and climbing up on my shoulder when I'm doing work at the computer. Really friendly and affectionate overall, and he's adjusted really quickly. I know some cat owners have to let their new kitties come to them, and that can take days or weeks after arriving at their new home, but my kitten was ready to interact almost immediately -- he took a few laps around my bedroom, explored the nooks and crannies, and then wanted to play.

Problem is, I can't decide on a name for him.

Some possibilities are:

* Khal Drogo. (The juxtaposition is hilarious, I think. A cute little cat named after a huge warrior.)

* Jean-Luc Picard (Star Trek)

* Sheldon (Big Bang Theory)

* Commander Shepard (Mass Effect)

* Zoolander ('Cause he's ridiculously good looking.)

* Alex (I just like the name)

Any suggestions?

Khal Drogo! Lol! So cute! You could call him Khalley D for short!

I've always liked exotic names for male cats:

-Guillermo

-Diego

-Antonio/ Ricardo/ Eduardo

-Filipe

-Pierre

-Juan

My boy is Gustavos, I call him Gus for short. He's a handsome little devil.

nah, Jaime is a one-armed blonde. Have to get things right here! The Khal has long black hair with bells in... but not too many know that, so that's an option.

I'm for Alex. Easy, to the point, even your vet can pronounce it

Thanks for the suggestions :)

I have "unofficially" named him Khal Drogo, but really I've been calling him "Bud" or "Buddy" this whole time, so I think that may become his name. Sounds horrible to still be undecided, I know, but I just can't seem to settle on a name. When I'm absolutely sure, I will put his name on his carrier and stuff, but he'll always be Little Buddy.

Ah...but Alex is awesome too, and I really like Owleei's suggestion of Meow Zedong lol.

have you tried to see how he reacts to the names? does he look at you or come to you when you say "bud" or "buddy"? that is sometimes how we know which name(s) fit them well.

my mickey's name was originally angus, but it evolved into mickey which fit him perfectly. my snick's name was originally butch, but she turned out to be a little girl so it was changed to snutch, which became snickel-snutch or snickel......snick for short. and snick fits my girl just right. so i think it's normal to still be undecided.

I think it's normal not to know for a while, you have to wait for personalities to develop.

Usually I run through the alphabet, and watch reactions to the letters. If he looks at me specifically on a sound or letter, I try to make sure I include that.

We are 2.5 weeks in and while she has a name, we rarely use it. We only named her a week ago. Whatever you name him isn't his real name anyway. That we will never know.

I suggest 'owl', little one in pic brought that word up first when I see the pic, so that is my unscientific method of naming cats, what pops on mind first when seeing one.

Of course other method for me is to name them by sound they make, three of mine (majority) has been named by that method, they all seem to have their own way of using sound so that is easy way to pick name too.

Sure there are unlimited number of ways to come up with a name, but for some reason I have used only these two methods :)

I have a colony cat that we call Oscar. He wrote a poem one day that started like this:

They call me Oscar,
Hmphh! That's not really my name.
So what if I'm grouchy?
I'm not to blame!

All those young cats,
Swirling all over the place,
They don't even give an old man his space!

Just leave me alone and stay out of my way.
I'd send you a note if I wanted to play.

Just save me a place In The warm warm sun
And you silly young ones can play and run.

Leave me alone and I'll be fine.
LEAVE ME ALONE
Why don't you mind?

What is so funny about this is that I see him snuggled with youngsters nearly every day. He is their grouchy " uncle" Oscar. We will probably never know his real name.

Hope you enjoyed the doggerel. Or would this be catterel?
