She was very special as she was super friendly and let my whole family pet her and would come inside and sleep on my lap. She was 8 years old and just recently got sick and was tested and came back positive for leukemia. I had given her 7 days to see if her blood count would increase but it slowly got lower and she had trouble breathing and her anemia hardly improved. I couldn't afford a blood transfusion and no guarantee it would of helped. So I decided to put her to sleep. I was there as they did it and petted her so she knew she was loved and it felt like losing a pet to me I was the closest to her. I'm glad she didn't die in pain or suffer like most outside or feral cats do. Buttons will be greatly missed I hope now her sprit is free and happy and she is reunited with her mom and siblings that had died years earlier.

Bless you for sparing her from needless pain and suffering.  It took great courage and tremendous love and devotion to do the right thing for Buttons - and how fortunate that you came into her life- she left this world knowing that she had a name and what it felt like to be petted, adored, treasured.  Heaven is one Princess richer tonight -Godspeed, Buttons!!!

@catsknowme  you brought tears to my eyes, I can't even see to type.

It was your comment about heaven being one princess richer tonight. What a sweet, touching thing to say.

So true, and btw, this is the first time you told her name, I once had a very, very special little girl I found as a young kitten who I tamed, I absolutely adored her, it was so hard to give her up when she was adopted, which I don't usually do since I need to make room for the next kitties who need me, but she was a star to me.

Her name was Buttons :)

Little girl dance free, feel young and light, and good, and loved, because you are and will always have a special spot reserved for you in this kind person's heart.

It's so very hard to live with the grief that comes with losing your furbaby, but you took on her pain for yourself. It took compassion and mercy to be with her when she needed you the most, it comforted her but broke your heart. She knew the love of a family and gave you love in return, like the saying says, "cats are not our whole world, but make our world whole." I'm glad you let us know your girl through your tribute, she sounds like a wonderful friend and companion. Know you are not alone in your sorrow, we'll try to lessen your burden by sharing your grief. Please take care of yourself. RIP beautiful Buttons!

Aw, I don't hear the name too often so its nice to hear you also had a cat named Buttons. :)
Mine was white with black and on one side of her belly was a huge black circle that looked like a button, so that and the fact she was "cute as a button" she got her name. As a kitten she was scrawny with kitten hair that looked like she always had static electricity it was adorable, eventually she filled in and her short hair was smooth and shiny.

I don't have a photo of her as a kitten, but make this kitten slightly longer with slightly larger ears and that's what she looked like. http://images.mooseyscountrygarden.com/gardening-journals/garden-journal-12/kitten-black-white.jpg

I'm very sorry for your loss of Buttons. FeLV is such a cruel fate, and she was fortunate to have you there for her. RIP, Buttons. :rbheart:
