I took in a cat about two weeks ago from a couple who couldn't have her anymore. Today I got her rabies vaccination, and the first shot of the FVRCP series. Now, as an older cat, will she be needing the two boosters for the FVRCP? I wasn't sure if the same guidelines used for 8 week old kittens still applied or not, and just wanted to make sure I get her what she needs. Thanks in advance for those who answer

Hi and welcome to TCS!

Usually cats who reach adulthood only need one FVRCP and then every 3 years after that.  Kittens get 3 because we're trying to get the vaccine in the kitten as the mother's naturally conferred immunity wears off, and you can't be sure exactly when that happens in the first 4 months of life.

Is your vet suggesting more FVRCP?

I agree with StephenQ as she is near adulthood therefore needs just the one.

She was lucky though, the kitten series of 3 is to protect her until her immune system matures, and without, is at a very high risk of herpevirus, calicivirus and panleukopenia (like puppy parvo)

So given that she is 9 months only needed the one fvrcp, and repeated in 3 years.
