hiya, i have 2 sisters they gave birth on the same day. Caramel bring 2 kittens in the morning, then Teresa bring 4 late in the afternoon. when Caramel gave birth Teresa jumped in her box and start to take care of the babies together with the mom who was looking like a tourist :p after she gave birth as well, they removed the kittens in my laundry box...after a while they removed them again in my cupboard... they stay all together without any problem but in the last days i noticed that Caramel is trying to take some kitten back to the laundry box (the funny is she choose 2 of teresa and one of her own), then teresa is coming and bring them back in the cupboard and so on... a bit ago caramel came down to the kitchen (i live in a two storey home) with one of teresa's kitten in her mouth and let it on the floor...of course teresa came and pick it up but i wonder what shall i do.... they will make the kittens crazy!

Moms moving them kittens back and forth isnt unusual.   Here the complication is they are two with this.    Most often, if they are sisters or good friends, they can cooperate and gets much help from each other.    Here you got some problems...

First, make sure there are no stressing moments, and they have nests who they like, dark sheltered corner, such...

But if you think t will be better with separating the moms, try with this...

Good luck!

I suggest that you confine the girls in a smaller space, like one bedroom, because it is not good for the kittens to be dragged around all over the home like that.  It is normal for the mamas to move them if you don't change the bedding after about 24 hours.  In nature, that is to get the babies away from the smells that might attract predators.  If you have a bedroom with a closet and could clean everything out of the closet and set up a nursery for them in there and have their food and litter boxes in that bedroom also, chances are they would keep the kittens in the closet if there were no attractive alternative places in the room.  If not, if they are going to steal each others babies back and forth, then each will need her own room until the babies get bigger.  Newborns can get chilled easily, and if a kitten was left on the floor too long while you are asleep, it might not make it.

this is exactly what i am afraid of, to not let any baby lost somewhere. i would definitely separate the mothers but i have the feeling that caramela doesn't care THAT much (if both cats are down with us and the babies cry it is teresa who run to check, never her, also most of the times she's feeding them without laying good, she doesn't care much to clean them etc) and the problem is that her two babies are much smaller than the the ones of teresa, so i feel more relaxed if teresa is around  to take care of them... but i think i will follow the advice of closing their room so they cannot go nowhere until the babies become a big bigger. thanks a lot
