I have a cat nursery in one room of my house. With just about everything a kitten could want. At the back of the room in each corner is a book case. From book case to book case is a twelve foot board covered with carpet in front of a large window. The four feral kittens I trapped last October are now ten months old. Every morning after we have a big fuss over breakfast I spend an hour playing with the kittens. Two will still not make physical contact. The only male is solid black, his name is Midnight. He is the tamest of them all.He comes over for treats; I say his name but I'm not sure he knows it. Yesterday  while we were playing, a bird flew past the window and landed in the tree in view of the window, then started singing. Midnight ran over and jumped up to the window seat. When he spotted the bird he let out a twirl noise.( The feral kittens rarely meow or make any other noises.)  I said (as I always do when we hear a bird) "That's a birdie" Midnight eyes opened wider and he stretched his neck way out in the direction of the bird. The bird sang again and Midnight let out another twirl.I said "Midnight that's a birdie!" He then looked at me and twirled. I said "Yes I'm talking to you." He jumped off the window seat ran over to me and twirled then held his head down, as he always does, to get petted and get a treat. Midnight and I had just had our first conversation!
