My cat Sassy is pregnant. I am not sure how far along and was wanting to get some of your opinions. Ok so to try to make it short... She was calling on Feb 24-28 and my special needs son accidentally let her out. March 5 we noticed her nipples were a bright pink (that's not supposed to happen until the 3rd week). The week of March 10-14 her belly started to poof out on the sides (shouldn't start to Show until the 4th or 5th week). I took her to my vet on March 19th and he Said she was in her 6th Week of pregnancy. That would have put hee due last Week but no kittens yet. from the beginning of this week it appears that the kittens have moved back. Just so you Know her belly is huge and hard for a while. I also have been able to feel and see the Kittens moving for 2-3 weeks now. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello and welcome to The Cat Site. I can't answer your questions, but somebody else will be along to help you.
Good luck with the cat and her pregnancy.

My guess is, her letting out by your son end of febr was a false trace.  It was already done.  5March with these raspberry pink teats was a safe measure.

also, all your other facts suggests the mark point of 5march=3 weeks,  was the correct one.

This means, it is any day now, practically any hour....   Just to wait.     :)

And prepare yourself as well as you can, if you hadnt done it earlier.

You shall know, it seems cats  manage a little too long pregnancies well, unlike humans.

But kittens dont manage well premature birth, unlike humans....

I shall  paste in some links in a minute.   Look also after youtube films if you so wish.

Good luck!

Thank you StefanZ, that's what I am thinking. I am prepared for her to have them.

LolaSky, Sassy's belly is huge. Her sides have actually slimmed down and her belly is hanging lower underneath. Lola is beautiful, I love black cats.

Scan't wait for her to have her kittens. I am excited to see them but more anxious about the delivery. I don't expect her to gave any problems, I just really hate to see my babies in pain and I know that there is nothing I will be able to do for her.

I scheduled her a spay/abortion surgery as soon as she started calling because she would have only been 2 weeks but on March 19th (surgery day) the vet said she was 6 weeks already so I didn't have the heart to do it. I know that sounds bad but I know that there are too many unwanted cats/kittens already. I have 5 rescue cats and 4 years ago one of them had kittens so I kept them. That makes 7 cats for me. Sassy will not be going outside again until she is spayed. All the rest of my cats and my 2 dogs have been spayed/neutered. I am a firm believer in having them fixed.

Yes, she is huge. She is not a small cat but she's not a big cat either. Thank you. I hope your cat has a great delivery too

Sassy's belly has continued to get smaller on the sides (the right side is alot smaller now) but it is hanging under her alot more. She has not been nesting at all. She just sleeps on the dining room floor all the time for the last 3 weeks. I have 2 boxes set up in there for her and I put a 3rd box in the dining room closet with food and water for her. I can still see and feel the kittens moving but I am getting worried about her. I am getting worried that she is overdue or will be soon. Any advice? I don't want to stress her out by taking her to the vet right now.

it sounds like maybe sassy's kittens are moving back/down to the birthing positions. in other words, it sounds like sassy is close to/getting ready to birth her kittens. she'll lose her mucus plug just before starting labor, usually up to 24 hours or so prior to starting labor.

you could call your vet's and ask them at what point/what date would they advise you to bring sassy in if she has not had her kittens yet. that way you'll know that sassy should see the vet if no kittens yet, and (at least for me it would) put your mind more at ease about it.

you know, your sassy looks quite a lot like my snick. snick has longer hair though, she's long haired. and your sassy is lighter colored than my snick. i think it's the similar facial features and markings.

Yes, I will definitely call the vet to see what they think.

Sassy still has not had her kittens. Her nipples were a bright pink Saturday and Sunday but this morning they were back to white? Her kittens are still moving and she seems fine.

I have the definitve impression from following hundreds if not thousands of forumists, many waiting and waiting and waiting, cats do manage long pregnancies better than you would spontaneously think.  Better than humans for example, where a too long pregnancy is a good reason for cesarean.

while a too short pregnancy, for example a cesarean too early, do saves the mom all right, but endangers or even kills the kittens.

so this is the big danger with cesarean when you dont have a safe measure of how long the pregnancy really was.

Nothing yet. She's holding onto those babies for dear life. Lol. She has been a bit restless today so maybe soon.

Thank you. I'm going to give her until the end of the week and if she hasn't had them then I will be taking her to the vet to have her checked. I just don't want to jump into a c - section when she seems completely fine. I prefer to let it happen naturally.
