Went to do a load of sheets yesterday morning and when I went to put them in the dryer there was still water and suds in the machine. Seems everything worked thru the rinse cycle, but then the machine wouldn't drain. Tried turning it back and tried other cycles but the same thing. We have a service contract with a repair co. but of course they couldn't schedule an appointment until next Thurs. I managed to get the sheets out of the washer, put them in the dryer, but since they were soppingt wet it took forever to dry. Drained some of the water with a pitcher. The washing machine will be 14 years old so I guess I shouldn't complain, but it's just a pain in the neck.

I am not sure if yours is top load or front load?  Ours also broke down in the summer, and it turned out to be a small plastic switch at the top, which just decided to break, from the top door closing on it all the time.

why they would make it from plastic....is beyond me.

Sometimes the filter at the bottom gets plugged, is what I was told.

14 years is  a long time, but I think they built things better back then.  Now they may be more efficient, but break down or stop more...especially the digital boards on the front facing ones.

good luck.

My happy place.
Not sure what sort of machine you have but my hubby is a service engineer and he said either check the filter as cat nap said or the drain hose may be blocked or the pump might be broken. Hope this helps.:)

No way would I have dried that load. Would have gone and rewashed them at a place to get the soap out. With all that water it would have really been a lot for the dryer to handle.

We had the same piece break off our washer cat nap.  I thought the same thing. We wedged a screw in it and it worked fine.  That was at apartment and that washer decided to leak all over. Started load before getting in shower and water pressure seemed low for to long got out to find water all over.  Turns out it had a small crack in basin and kept trying to fill itself up to the sensor level.  Had I started it and gone out...THAT would have been very very bad.

We had to replace our washer last year after twenty some years. I first got one from Lowes that was the new high efficiency type top loader. I hated it. The clothes didn't get rinsed good and they were extremely wrinkled. It took fifty minutes to wash a load. I told them come get it and Lowes took it back. I bought myself a Speed Queen, top loader, regular washer with an agitator and I am in love with my washing machine.

Lana, I hope you get your machine fixed and you don't need a new one. I would have been a little leery to try to dry those sheets in the dryer, too; that's pretty wet stuff!

Good luck.

That's exactkt what was wrong. If I remember correctly, we had the same thing some years back. Easy fix and it's working fine now. The service tech said that it is a result of the top closing all the time. I guess I shouldn't complain about just 2 repairs in 14 years. Oops -I'd better not press my luck!
