wondering what the symptoms are for prostatitis?

also, mr kitty tends to 'scoot' - always has - sometimes i've cut off fecal matter on fur clotted around the 'nuts' area and his scooting ceased...he has extra fur in this area.

but tonight he seemed to be in pain when i looked at his downstairs area & for the first time he bit me!    no fecal matter there.  i just noticed some clear secretions from the anus - is that normal?

what could this be?   is it anything I should be concerned about?

he's never bitten me before, ever

The bottom line, unfortunately, is that if a cat is ever leaking any fluid from any place on his or her body, a vet visit is in order- particularly if he or she seems to be in pain and is acting abnormally.  I would get your cat into the vet tomorrow if at all possible as he or she will best be able to help you.

Good luck!

My cat leaks clear liquid but its an ongoing problem of his anal glands. The smell is putrid too! Did it smell??

The scooting is indicative of anal gland problems.  Get your guy to the vet to have his anal glands checked.  Also, if he's not on a predominately canned food diet, I'd recommend you change to that as that helps with stool problems.  Each time the kitty poops, the anal glands secret a mucous like substance to help the stool pass.  If your kitty has hard stools, it could be painful to pass stools.  Wet food helps soften stools.

thank you very much for your concern.

Mr kitty is still scooting.

i've had him to the Vet -  before, for this.  apparently he doesn't need his anal glands 'expressed'; he's ok in that respect.

I was thinking...maybe he just sweats a lot??  he's gotten kind of big.

daily he has wet food every morning and lately i've started to add water altho his 'wet food' is quite watery.  at night he gets dry food WITH water continually refreshed near his bowl

I think i'll wait and see.  (each time at the vet it costs about $700 and nothing much is done or said except they keep him overnight for observation)

and his stools...well, they're like "tootsie rolls" and i haven't seen him having any problems producing them.

generally he seems happy...altho he does continue to 'scoot'; he has does that since I adopted him as a 'used' kitty maybe 4 years ago.

i'll keep watching and............ THANK YOU again for your suggestions!
