Hi posters! This is Karin, better known as AutumnRose74. I was adopted 6 weeks ago by a sweet girl-cat named Shelly, and we share a 2-br apartment in Troy, NY, just north of Albany (I am a native of the area).

I am always on the look-out for new resources and cat people to learn from and trade ideas with. Although Shelly is my first kitty, I spent the whole 4 months since I had "the cat talk" with my landlord until finally taking the trip to the Humane Society reading and studying and learning what I would be in for. As a result, I was able to hone some of my mindset in regards to how I want to care for my cat before I even had the cat!

Shelly and I adopted each other this past February 18. She is just shy of 4 years old (DOB 6/3/10), and she is a brown and orange tabby. She is 14 pounds, so she does have some weight to lose. Luckily, she likes to play, so I am giving her exercise! She sleeps on my bed, and loves to sneak up on me in the mornings and give me cheek/face rubs! Best alarm clock! :)

At the current time I am researching switching vets, because the practice I had picked out changed their website since Shelly-s initial exam on 3/1, so now it says they are offering "the full line of Science Diet Prescription foods" when their website USED to say they would work with owners who wish to make their own food. When she had her initial exam I was not even offered the option of having a titers done for the distemper booster, OR told to monitor the vax site for VAS. Those things do not sit well with me. Just today I found a vet in my area who takes a holistic view of pet care - he even studied homeopathy under Robert Pitcairn for 2 years, so his practice sounds like it will be a better fit.

I am anti-declaw, and pro-species appropriate diets and holistic/integrative medicine, and hope to transition Shelly eventually to a raw homemade diet. For now she is on an all-canned diet. I am a "disciple" of Drs. Lisa Pierson, Jean Hofve and Karen Becker, and I have a copy of Michelle T Bernard's book "Raising Cats Naturally."

So, anyway... that's it for now. I hope to get to know you all, and have lots of kitty conversations!
