Hi All

I have two Maine Coons and per recommendation of my breeder I use the Pine Pellets (non clumping)

I hated throwing out all the good pellets and wasting money so I searched this site to find a sifter.

I found a woman who drilled 100's of  1/4" holes at the bottom of the litter box and had an additional box underneath to receive the saw dust I thought great idea. It was a great idea but I spent a lot of time shaking and moving the litter around to get the saw dust to drop to the bottom.

I then search more to find another solution.

I found one!!

This guy online makes sifters for soil that clips on to a Rubbermaid container.  I thought hey this might work.

Well it does!! Love it so much I thought all you cat owners would love it also.

I dump the litter onto the sifter and us the scoop to run the litter back and fourth a few times.  All the dust goes inside the rubbermade container and all the good reusable pellets are on top to be used again.  Takes two minutes and I am done.  I do recommend you do it in your garage or outside because when you pickup the sifter to put the pellets back into the litter box some of the dust does drop on the floor.

the site is http://www.thesoilsifter.com

I have no connection to this site.  I just love the product!

Thanks for sharing your discovery, @resalemomma.  My daughter has used the pine pellets for years and has some sort of litter box that has the sifter built in with a solid box underneath to catch the sawdust.  I think there are actually two sifter parts and one solid but I'm not sure.  I had used the pine pellets for years -- Tractor Supply Company sells them as horse bedding for about $5.50 for a 40 lb. bag.  I still buy horse bedding for litter there, but now I buy the corn cob crumbles, called "Best Cob Premium Horse Bedding."  It costs $8.99 for 40 pounds and is different from the pellets in that it actually absorbs the moisture and gently clumps, making it easy to dig out a wet spot.  My cats like it better than the pine pellets in general -- I can tell because they actually bury their deposits which they did NOT do much with the pine pellets.  While the cob crumbles don't have that lovely pine smell, they do seem to deodorize just as well.  I will look into this sifter, though, and mention it to my friends who do use pine pellets.

In Australia, a popular litter is Ozpet, which is the wood pellets, and you can also buy the tray system that comes with the sifter. I think there is also a similar one called Enviro litter, which also uses the sifter. I decided to get this system as I know so many people who use it, and my breeder was using this system. OMG I love it. My sister-in-law suggested using a litter liner in the bottom tray, which makes changing the litter so easy. It's been a week since we got our kitten and I haven't had to do a full litter change at all. I just scoop the poop pretty much as soon as it's there, and sift a couple of times a day. Then all the clean litter stays in the sifter tray and you just top it up a bit.
I love it because the box is also quite deep, so you don't get litter everywhere when they are covering, and it also doesn't track.
This is their website showing how the system works, and the trays (hope it's okay to post the link)

That box looks like the set up my daughter has for the pine pellets. I was trying to describe it but that photo looks exactly like it.
