Just got an email from Dell.....the new tower has been shipped! When I ordered it, the email said delivery was to be around May 5th, so I haven't been keeping track. Got an email this morning saying it's been shipped and we should have it early next week. (It's not coming to the house because we're not here to sign for it.)

So when you hear a lot of frustrated yelling coming from PA next week? Um....that would, no doubt, be me. And, if you don't see me online for awhile? That will be because I've haven't figured it out yet.

Windows 8, here I come!  *gulp*

At first I was so confused by Windows 8, but seriously if you use a smartphone it isn't so bad.  At school when I have to use 7 I grumble, and I had XP Pro before moving to 8!

Well, it's in my car. I got the email that it was delivered, so I used some of my lunch hour to pick it up. Stay tuned.

Well, I'm here. But I am not amused. This is going to take some getting used to, that's for sure.

I took off everything I needed from my Vista computer. Disconnected it and connected the new one. *shaking my head*

I didn't know where to go! I didn't know what to do!
Finally figured some stuff out, got rid of McAffey (one  free year came with the computer) and installed Kaspersky with no trouble. Then installed Chrome.

And here I am!

It's going to be one heckuva ride, that's all I can say.

Took me 10 minutes to figure out where the logout button is. And only because after 10 minutes I took out my smartphone and googled "how to logout windows 8".

Glad you are still with us!! :high5: Larry put Windows 8 on the computers too. I still use the Windows 7 interface though. I just HATE change, especially with techie stuff. It takes me quite a bit of time to learn the new upgraded technologies and then "they" go and change things AGAIN. Bigger, newer and better?????? Not in my book. :lol3: :lol2:

If not for Larry - I don't think anyone would ever hear from me again. Case and point: Just tonight all of the sudden my computer screen ENLARGED as if I were nearly blind. I couldn't figure out HOW to make it go back to normal nor did I know what I did to make it magnified . SO - asked Larry. Says "Hit the Control button and the minus button at the same time". FIXED !!! :D :D :D I am impressed, Pam, that you are figuring things out on your own !!!!!!!! :einstein:

Oh Cory......
 Poor ice cream.

Lauren, I'm just thankful to be here. I have an idea as to what I'm doing. Just not a very good one.

Hate the START screen. What an incredible waste. Just hate that thing.

Yep, peaches, updated to 8.1. At least there's a START button.

Had to put in a password to get into the computer.....put it in, then went back and deleted it. I see no need.

I see no need to set up an account with Microsoft either. I already got rid of a lot of stuff on that stupid START screen.

Reinstalled Quicken, Paint Shop Pro 7 and Paint Shop Pro X. Installed the new iTunes; Apple has been after me to download the latest version anyway; now maybe they'll leave me alone for a while again.

Put my Fitbit Dongle into its USB port.

Didn't get my new Office stuff yet from Amazon.

The start screen with all the tiles? At first I was intimidated by it, then I got used to the idea of 2 start screens (tiles vs desktop). They have a cool exercise tile on the far right in the tiles start screen.

I spent a lot of my spring break downloading all my programs (mostly for school)...I feel for ya. It's a pain no matter which OS you use.

I hardly ever turn my computer off anymore, so when it comes out from hibernation, it pretty much stays right on the desktop. The only time I really see the start screen is when I have to reboot the thing. The only tiles on my start screen now are my Desktop tile and the Mail tile....I got rid of the rest of them.

Actually, despite my complaining, it went fairly well last night. I was surprised. I didn't get online until I installed Kaspersky for protection and that installation even went well. (Usually Kaspersky gives me fits, but it even decided to behave.)

Didn't do the printer or the scanner yet.

Having trouble now with my Fitbit Dongle.....it's not registering from the wristband and I don't know why.

I'm frustrated that, seemingly, in order to set up Mail on 8, I have to set up an account with Microsoft. And I guess I have to change my email addy now to [email protected]? I don't want to do that. I have a regular POP account through my ISP and I'd like to keep that. But I'm not sure how to go about it. So I need to figure some things out. Either that or just use Rick's computer for email now, since it's already set up on that one. Or use my gmail.

Lauren, how did Larry set up your Windows 7 interface? My BIL had told me before that there was a way to use the 7 interface. My BIL came in last night to make sure I hadn't thrown the new computer into the pool
. And when I talked to him last night. he said he must have misunderstood me; to his knowledge, there's no way to do that unless you buy software specifically for that. But he was smiling when he said it, so I have a feeling he's trying to force me to use the 8 interface. I'd just as soon go to 7, if I could. But I haven't figured that out yet.

ETA: Lauren, never mind.....I think I figured it out!

I'll take it back to the Vista computer tonight after I connect it for Rick. Thanks for the heads up, Andrya.

You need to run the Fitbit set up again on your new computer. Then it will sync and you should be fine.

 I have email!
I downloaded Windows Live Mail, so was able to use my regular email instead of creating the account with Microsoft. GMTA, Peaches!

And I have the Windows 7 interface!
I just told it to bypass the Start screen and go directly to the Desktop. That works fine for me.

And I set up my Fitbit account on the new computer and it's syncing properly.

No, it didn't take me all night to get this done. I've been working on the old XP computer, uninstalling programs and such before I kill the hard drive. I finally got most of that finished and wanted to work on this before going to bed.

 I'm a happy camper!
