I can't take my cat with me and I do not trust anyone with her. Is it a good idea to leave her home alone? I will leave plenty of food and fresh water and 2 litter boxes. I don't want anyone to stop by my house and come in when I am not here. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

I wouldn't if I were you. It's good to have someone come check in just to see that she looks okay and is healthy. She could become injured or sick while you are away and she will be left for days before any help arrives.

You can also put her up in a cat hotel/kennel if you really don't want someone coming into your house.

Set up remote Webcam for peace of mind, leave out plenty of food, water and litter.

If you see something wrong, have someone you can call to check.

As long as the cat has no medical issues or meds needed, I'm sure things will be fine.

Get the cams which have listening & talking capability. Two way audio.

Leave twice or three times as much food and water. Multiple bowls of each in case

one is knocked over, especially the water.

If your cat fills the litter box in 2 days, leave at least 3 litter boxes.

Use the above as a guide only. Your cat's needs may vary.

Good luck, don't worry and enjoy...

In the past, I have left my Frannie alone this long while I was on vacation. I left plenty of food out in multiple dishes, more than she could possibly eat, several big bowls of water in heavy containers, and seven litter boxes- one for each day. I bought a bunch of the disposable litter boxes for a couple dollars apiece and all of them were used.
She was okay when we got home and very glad to see us. I think she was very, very lonely while we were gone and I felt awful about it. I could hear her meowing from inside the house when we pulled into the driveway. This is when she was younger and an only cat. I would not leave her alone this long again because of how lonely she was. After she climbed all over us and got lots of love, she then ignored us for days. People say cats are not capable of holding a grudge or being mad at you, but I disagree- Frannie was pissed. But, luckily, she was physically fine and back to her normal behavior a few days after our return.

I'm sorry you don't trust anyone with your cat.  If you dont want anyone in your house, perhaps you could find a friend who could keep her in their study or bedroom for the 7 days.  Even if she were physically all right for the seven days, she is likely to feel abandoned and lonely like @happybird's Frannie.  If you have no friends you trust, most areas do have reliable bonded pet sitters, and there are very nice Kitty Hotels for boarding also, bright, well-lit, with kitty tv and a view.  I cannot imagine leaving an only cat alone for seven days, my heart would be breaking for her and my whole vacation would be spent worrying about her.

I also can't imagine leaving a cat home alone for that long.  If there's absolutely nobody who can come to your house, is there a place where you can board her?

I would not feel good about leaving a cat alone that long with no one to check on them. I'm going to Orlando for 8 days in July, but my mom will be over every 2 days to check on the girls and give them love. Especially cats coming from a shelter, the last thing I want is for them to feel abandoned. If I did not have my mom who could check on them, I would definitely board them.

I will leave a radio playing so it's not silent in the house, I would definitely encourage that you do the same.  And I second what the previous members said. Leave extra of everything, especially water.

I'm glad you asked us and listened to the general agreement that 7 days is too long to leave her alone, even if she would be OK physically, she would not be happy emotionally.  You will have a much better time on your vacation if you know she is not alone, not feeling abandoned, and being cared for by someone who can call you if there is any problem.

That's wonderful!  Now you can enjoy your vacation and not worry about her, and she won't feel like she has been abandoned.  You can give her the link to this site just in case she has any questions while you're gone in case she can't reach you first.
