I adopted her when she was around 5-6 months and had 2 weeks with her alone till my husband returned from an overseas trip.  She was a purry, cuddle bug, who kneaded and nibbled on me every night before falling asleep.  My husband fell for her the moment he saw her.  She liked him but not the way she hung onto me.  Then we took her for the spaying (she hates pet carrier and car rides) and she had to wear an e collar for 5 days.  She came out of the ordeal without any physical problems.  She is still loving and hangs around us all the time and especially seem to want to be with me.  But she cannot tolerate being cuddled for more than 30 seconds.  She gets on my lap several times a day and as soon as I touch her she gets down.  She stopped sleeping in our bed although she plays rough with us for 15 minutes till we fall asleep and then in the morning.  But try cuddling her, she runs away.  What is going on?  Is this common?  Is there something we can do?

This is probably not the result of the spay, but a maturation of her personality.  Work with her, don't force her.  Offer her treats on your lap and try to pet her very gently when she's eating the treats and she may in time associate the pleasure of eating with the pleasure of petting.  Try playing with her more, she may be more play oriented than cuddle oriented.

Some cats have specific parts of their body they don't like having touched. Is that the case with her? Can you pet her when she isn't on your lap?

Let's see what some other people have to say too :)
