hi has anyone got any tips for me please on how to take of my cat in the late stages of pregnancy and the birth?
at the end of January we moved house and a few Weeks later my cat had escaped whilst letting my dog out the back and got lost. lucky we did find her about a week later up by our old house but she is nw pregnant. we never had her done as she is manly an indoor cat and has only recently been going out when I'm outside to the garden and then she's back in again! I have already found homes for the Kittens and all money made will go to the cats protection charity.
I think she must be due very soon now and hv been awake nearly everynight with her just incase she goes in to labour. I have read loads of horror storys about how Kittens can get stuck and I'm worried that this might happen to flo what do I need to do? I have set up a place for her to give birth under my bed as that is were she prefers to go x please help x

Do you remember the dates of the week she escaped, this will help determine when she is due, cats carry for about nine weeks, but can go over by nearly a week.

You should he feeding her a good quality kitten food. Let her eat as much as she wants through the remainder of her pregnancy and whilst she is nursing her kittens! Also prepare a birthing box, encourage her to go in this box so she gets used to it.

I'm sure other more experienced forum users will be along soon who can give you more information. Good luck :-)

Unfortunately though nobody can prepare you for a problem labour, my girl Tigger had a bad time during birth and ended up having to have an emergency cesarean. Believe me this was not in my birthing plan for her lol...I nearly lost her and her babies but thankfully she pulled through and so did one of her little ones. After a rocky start he's thriving now! :-D

Okay so her EDD should be anytime between 21 and 27 April so she's not quite ready yet. I'm sure everything will be fine, just keep an eye on her and observe her behaviour. When labour starts you will just know, although there will be occasions when you think she's in labour but you'll soon realise she isn't! When labour does start she will probably not want you to leave her and she will settle down somewhere and start panting or breathing heavily and contracting and then pushhing. When the first kitten arrives, she will probably see to it herself. The second should arrive around 20 - 30 mins after the first (or maybe a little sooner) and so on.

If shes been in active labour, contracting and pushing, for more than 12 hours and still hasn't given birth, you should take her to a vet and let them check her. This could be when she's having the first, last or any in between.

However, Some cats have been known to rest during labour and can wait upto 24hours to deliver their last kitten(s).

Just try to remain calm so that she stays calm and everything should be fine :-)

She had the first one no problems but it was stillborn, then her contractions stopped. But then early hours the next day, a good 16 hours later, she had another that was still born too, but this second one was tiny and very under developed! I became concerned then, but Tigger wasn't distressed so I thought maybe she's just tired and resting.

But I soon realised her contractions had stopped again. Then she became really limp and weak and could barely stand up. I had already called the vet and got her an appointment for later that day but I was so concerned I took her earlier than planned, and it was good job I did because the vet said she looked really ill and sent her for a cesarean straight away. The one kitten left inside was very lucky and was a little fighter. He's 10 days old now and he's doing brilliant!

She's adorable. I wouldn't think that there would be a problem letting her be with your dog unless you think it will hurt her or the kittens. I have not seperated Sassy from the others (cats and dogs).

I think her plug was the slimy stuff coming away earlier. Sometime before they birth, they show the sack. This looks like a brownish bubble!
