Is it worth getting a cat collars for my cat?

Some people are set against cats wearing collars for their own reasons. I put one on my cat last year and my mother in law took it off saying they are dangerous.

I have bought the clip ones too and they just come off everytime my cat went out??

i would like your views on this topic

Hi :)

i would only use a safety collar to prevent strangulation if he got hooked on something, and I would remove the bell if it had one (who wants to spend their whole life with sensitive ears listening to that noise?).   Obviously a name tag with your phone # is a good idea.

I would also want a microchip because if he ever showed up at a shelter, this is what's going to save his life and get him back to you if that collar is gone.

My cats are using collars...since they are so tiny when I got them...I want to hear where they are and it is easy to find them whereever they are because they have a bell with their collars...and they dont seem to mind it wearing it at all....

I think the SAFEST collars I've seen for cats are the ones called Beastie Bands.  They are made out of soft foam with fabric on top and they hitch with velcro.  You can adjust them easily and just cut off the extra.  Some come with reflective paint in the designs for cats who go out.  They are very lightweight and they can stretch and pull off easily if the animal gets the collar caught on something.  They do wear out and get shaggy on the edges of the fabric, but they are not expensive ($5-$7 in general).  Just Google "Beastie Bands" to fid people who sell them.  It is hard to find them in stores other than high end specialty pet stores, but they are easy to find online and come with all sorts of designs, including seasonal ones for holidays.

i buy breakaway collars with bells for my cats.  sometimes they wear them, sometimes not.  they're not wearing them right now because one of mine recently had surgery and had been quarantined.  i like knowing where they are, and it's harder for my troublemaker jake to sneak up on the other cats.  i don't think it's mean, but some cats aren't meant for it.  my old outdoor cat (not my choice, it was a family cat when i was young) hated collars.  we'd put a breakaway collar with our phone number on it just in case (this was before microchipping was common) and he'd go outside, find a bush, rub around on said bush until he'd catch the collar on something, and rip it off.  i had seen him do it.  so we stopped after the fourth or fifth collar.  i like the breakaway collars because they snap off with just enough pull on the collar.
