I was wondering . . .

I was gone for 2 days and 2 nights.I come home and my niece told me Salem and Smoky got along great. The first thing Salem did when I got home was hiss at Smoky when they were getting a drink waiting for their treat. At the moment they are sharing me without growls or hisses. Is Salem just a bit jealous or showing she's "boss"?

Toyslady; Probably a little bit of both. I think that when we have been gone; they act up to get our attention and as a way of showing us they are NOT PLEASED that we "dared" to leave them!

Thanks TLK, but niece was here. They behaved and even slept in her room (they don't when I'm here). Thinking of taking Salem when I go to MI in Sept for a week. She travels well.

Your niece may live with you fulltime, but if your cats perceive you as their mother, they might still be put out that you went away. Any change in the routine causes stress. Your absence could very well be it.

Thanks Deb25. It probably won't help that we're both going away for 4 days this weekend too. They have plenty of food and water and seem to be getting along alot better!

I wouldn't worry about it if it's just a few days. Will your niece be there too? You can't not have a life because of 2 cats.

We're going to a family reunion in Memphis. Leaving Thurs back on Sun/Mon but there are 3 now. I'm certain they'll be ok. Its a big house they don't have to be social.
