and which may help others in their pain.

As I posted elsewhere, Zimmie died last Thursday and the pain has been horrendous. (I don't need to tell you guys how bad that can be.)

The next day I went to Stop and Shop and bought a pretty houseplant. I re-potted it in a nice  pot I had at home and underneath the pot I inscribed Zimmie's name and the date she died. The plant is now with my other houseplants in my sunroom. Every day I turn the pot to the sun and I read what I wrote underneath the pot. This comforts me tremendously.

But my husband did the very best thing. On top of Zimmie's grave in our backyard he planted a maple tree seedling. As he puts it, Zimmie is now a tree and will live on forever. I thought this was the most beautiful thing and it gives me enormous comfort to go outside every day and say hello to Zimmie

Just a couple of little things that could be done, which may help someone else in their loss.

Both of those are beautiful lasting tributes to your Zimmie. I especially like the idea of watching those things grow, like the love we have for our loved ones that will live on forever in our hearts. We all need comfort at times like these, thank you for sharing the ways you found to comfort yourself. Take care.....

I'm so sorry for your loss.  I think you and DH have made lovely tributes to Zimmie's memory.  Please take comfort that a cat you feel so much pain over losing is a cat that was well-loved and well cared for.  I don't know if that make sense, but that's what I often think about when I come to the Bridge to offer my condolences.  I wish all cats could be as fortunate to have people like you and your husband in their lives.

Things like that really do help. My husband surprised me a few months after Jamie passed by planting a pussy willow on his grave. It now has leaves, and I find myself going out and looking at that little tree almost every day.

Zimmie's seedling has leaves and little buds so she seems to be doing fine.
