I love how Purina stated that aflatoxin was an "unavoidable natural contaminant" of grains. Well, it's avoidable if you don't use grains that have no business in cat food anyway...

And it seems like it's always those ingredients that shouldn't be in cat food anyway that end up being the problem - grains, wheat gluten, additives.

Thank you for sharing. I've posted the link to the article on my facebook page. In Romania, Purina and Hill's (and Royal Canin) are considered the best...

P.S. I like the comment that Dr. Hofve made today on TAPF about how those foods may be made in the US, but the raw materials could be sourced from China. So China may be trying to pin this on us, but it could be their ingredients we're using! I commented right after her saying:
So true, Dr. Hofve. Whoever is supplying the offending ingredient is really the one to blame. I do wish, however, that US made pet foods would take more responsibility and care to source ingredients from safe, reputable suppliers. They try to hook consumers by plastering “made in the USA” all over their packaging, but every single ingredient could come from other countries.
Nonetheless, even though these toxins fall below the established limits, it's still important for consumers to know they are there when they shouldn't be, as Susan Thixton points out.

While true, without them many pet owners could not afford to feed their pets. It's simply a matter of cost and time really.
