In about a month I will be moving from Florida to Massachusetts. Its about a 22 hour drive, and depending on my energy I'll either stop to get a hotel or do it all in one straight shot. I've never traveled with a cat before, so I have no clue where to start with it. I do have a carrier. Should I be worrying about feeding her? (I'll give her water of course.) Trying to provide a litter box on the road? Help!

Hi Neato.

The longest journey I've ever done with a cat was 9 hours, but maybe I have a few hints for you. I managed to get some pet travel sickness pills from my vet which I gave her about an hour before we set off. These made her a bit sleepy, which was a good thing because she doesn't like the car, and also prevented nausea. If possible have the carrier facing forwards so that your cat can see out of the front windscreen and feed her breakfast at the usual time. An empty stomach and not being able to see where she is going will make her car sick, the same as it would with us.

Will she walk on a harness? If she is comfortable doing this you could have a few toilet breaks for her but if you don't want to risk letting her out of the car one of those big plastic food containers with sealed lid make a good travel litter box. Put some of her cat litter from her regular litter box in there, so she can smell what it's for. The sealed lid will stop it spilling and smelling while you're on the move.

Good luck, I hope you have a good trip.
