Hi all,

The other day my cat puked bright orange in two places in my hallway. I tried cleaning it with my normal carpet cleaner which usually works but this time it didn't... it seemed like it set the stain! Ugh... since then, I have tried vinegar, baking soda, and this fancy carpet cleaner from Petsmart that is supposed to get out cat stains, but didn't! I still have two ugly orange stains and my carpet is starting to really show wear from all the scrubbing.

Anyone have any advice? :(

Tide with bleach powder laundry detergent.

It works excellent at removing anything and everything including colored stains.

Mix up some tide, a decent amt in some hot water in a bowl, dissolve the soap well, and pour half of it on the stains, let it sit for a few minutes.

With a clean white towel, throw it on top of this and step on the towel, and twist your foot back and forth a few times.

For some reason it doesn't make it look worm from scrubbing doing it this way.

Keep moving the towel to a dry spot and twist until the wetness is nearly gone.

Pour cool water on it now and repeat, but no need to twist, it's to rinse any excess soap residue out.

Thank you, I will try that. The bleach in the detergent does not bleach the carpet white? My carpet is a light tan color so I don't want it to turn white, lol. :)

No, it's dry bleach so it's perfectly safe on colors. My carpet is also a light tan/beige color and I use Tide with bleach right in my carpet shampooer, and NOTHING cleans even close to how Tide does.

I get a lot of stains out with dishwashing liquid..ive got carpet stains out before with it. Pour it on stain and leave it for a min, scrub it like crazy and then use a clean damp cloth to soak it up. It works on my light brown carpet (which is the fave puke spot for my 4) and I put it on the cats bedding and then in the wash if they puke on that too.. :)

I should add that I use earth choice liquid..

The best product I've used for even the worst stains (coffee, chocolate, blood, ink, bile from cat puke, etc)...is a spray solvent type carpet stain remover called Spot Shot.   Has to be the aerosol/in the can.   Shake bottle good first, make sure you have a couple of thick clean towels handy.   Spray the area well w/ Spot Shot...let it sit for a few minutes......then blot blot blot with the towel.  DO NOT RUB as that will damage carpet fibers and make that area of the carpet look  sort of worn.    Keep blotting.   You sometimes have to repeat this 2-3 times.....even letting the Spot Shot sit on the spot for 15 minutes.....repeat as many times as you need to..........always using a fresh area of the towel to blot.  You will truly be amazed.  I've used it on carpet stains (light beige carpet) that I didn't know were there and were old and set and it still worked like a hot dang!   BUT...............until that area of the carpet is TOTALLY DRY (can take a couple of days) YOU MUST PLACE a large towel over that area, with something heavy on it...............you don't want to dare risk your cat accidentally walking on that damp spot as the stuff would likely not be very good for their paw pads or for them to potentially lick off of their paws (toxic I'm sure).    I'm in Canada, they sell this stuff pretty much everywhere, in the aisle with cleaning products, carpet stain removers (don't bother with  "Resolve" - waste of time)...........Safeway, Walmart, etc.   Here's what it looks like.   This stuff has been a true godsend over the years.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I ended up finding a hydrogen peroxide based cleaner at Target and used that over and over and it came up a little more each time. It's still faintly there, but only in some lighting. The whole hallway is destroyed anyway, since my kitten dug holes in the corners, so we'll probably end up replacing it with laminate soon! :)
