Hi all,

We have a 10 month old snow bengal kitty who for quite some time now has been crying to explore outside.

We wasn't intending on her being an outside cat as we previously had a kitty who was let out at the age of 6 months and unfortunately died in an rta this broke our hearts and we said we would have indoor cats from so on.

Our kitten now is constantly meowing to go out, running for open windows & even opening doors but we refuse to change our minds in allowing her to go out.

However we also have a cat harness lead thingy & when she has grown enough my partner would like to take her on walks.

Thanks for taking the time to read this could anyone provide their thoughts and advice on this.

Females in heat will do their utmost to try to get out and mate. Spaying her will lessen her desire to go outside A LOT. As has mentioned, there are also very good health reasons to spay her, not just pyometra, but also the chances of developing mammary cancer increase significantly in intact females.  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/spay-and-neuter-your-cats

I'm sure the breeder she came from will be doing that. Have you spoken to her breeder about this ? As any good breeder would only sell their kittens with a contract stating that the kitten must be spayed/neutered by 6 months never be breed from ?

Is your cat registered with a cat registry like the GCCF or TICA ? You get registration papers from the breeder when you buy a pedigree kitten.

Yes I'm sure she was registered however she had never mentioned anything regarding her being speyed in a time frame nor never to be bred.

Generally decent breeders are very protective of their lines. I would suggest contacting the breeder to see if she's OK with you breeding and what she suggests. Usually a breeding-quality kitten costs more than a pet-quality kitten and you have special arrangements with the breeder. There are so many unwanted cats in the world that you need to make sure her kittens will not become statistics---and yes, even purebreds can become statistics.

Anyway, if you choose not to spay, you just kind of have to put up with the sexual behaviors like howling, escape attempts, and (possibly) urine marking. That's part of keeping an intact cat.

Did you not sign a contract? If she truly is a licensed breeder, it is probably in there. If there is no written contract that is VERY unusual and a huge red flag.  Are you yourself a registered breeder? If not how do you plan to find another cat of her breed for her to breed with?

I hope you will get her spayed as soon as you can. As others have already explained there are real health risks with not doing so and with allowing her to breed. We are not meaning to gang up on you, but the number of kittens out there is a terrible problem and grows every day.  It is also terribly expensive to raise a litter of kittens, even irresponsibly,  If you plan to do so responsibly, it is a VERY large financial investment.

And unfortunately, also to echo everyone else, her not being spayed is 100% why she is desperate to get out. If you do not get her spayed, it is something you'll unfortunately need to live with.

Good luck with your girl.

Poor girl is crying and begging to go out so she can mate!!! Please, for medical reasons stated and the fact there's too many homeless felines, get her spayed!!!!
She WILL find a way out otherwise!

Good luck to you and your girl!
