Because I sleep late.

What is the weirdest, strangest, oddest thing that ever happened to you? Either unexplained or had a really simple explanation that you didn't find out till much later?

About 3 months after buying our first computer back in 1996, I think it became haunted. Between 6:30 and 6:45 pm every Saturday and Sunday, and only Saturdays and Sundays, the computer would stop powering up. When you press the power button, usually the power button would light up steady, and then the hard disk activity light will start flashing rapidly as the computer boots up, eventually it stops lighting as the computer enters idle mode.

Between 630 and 645 though, when we press the power button, both lights will light up simultaneously, and stay lit. Nothing happens. No POST, no BIOS startup, no Energy Star logo. The computer becomes unusable. This happens until 6am in the morning, without fail. Once I even set the alarm to wake up every hour to test it, because it was driving me crazy not knowing what was causing it. Right at 6am, everything went back to normal, and the computer became usable again.

If someone was using the computer at 6:29pm, the PC will turn off automatically without warning once it's "time", and then we had to wait till the next day to continue whatever it was we were doing, assuming we remembered to save our work. I tried changing the system date and time, but nothing I tried worked.

After another month or so, it started doing this every day instead of every weekend. This went on until we bought a new PC about a year later. We never figured out what caused it.

LOL! Perfect timing. We had a "haunted" Siemens microwave for 23 years. It went on strike every year from the day before Easter to Easter Monday. One repairman was so baffled that he came on the holiday to check it out. One time he took it with him. Apparently it only stopped working at our house.

Its successor and our current microwave (have) had no trouble functioning on Easter. They're different brands.

One summer night, many years ago (I was 15 or so), one of my GFs from our neighborhood had come down for dinner and stayed the evening. She lived on the other side of a gully, so I'd walk her home. We'd get to the gully and I'd wait til she got to the other side, then we'd both head for our houses. We were walking up the street and this guy was walking toward us. He stopped us and asked, "Hey, do you know where (boy's name) is? He's not at home." We said yes, that he was at his GF's house, which was right across from my house. I gave him directions, he said Thanks, and we went our way.

Then I remembered that the guy and his GF had been talking about going to the movies, so I turned back around and said, "Hey.....!  And there was nobody there. The guy was gone. That quickly. We couldn't find him anywhere.

That spooked my GF and I and we turned around and went back to my house, so my mom or dad could walk my GF home with me. I went across the street, but they had gone to the movies as they weren't in the house.

The next day, we were talking to the girl who lived across the street. It turns out that her boyfriend's brother had died the night before. A couple days later, we saw the guy's picture and he looked like the person we saw that night. It was dark, since it was around 10:00 or so at night, so we can't say for sure. And it could have just been a weird coincidence. But her boyfriend really thought that it was his brother that night.

I saw a UFO once, but I already put that in the UFO thread a couple months ago, so here is the other strange thing:

I used to live in a haunted building. It was the bar where I worked and I lived in one of the apartments above. My good friend was the other bartender and lived in the second apartment. We both experienced a lot of the same things, but we never mentioned anything to one another until I had been living there for six months.

It was really late and we had just finished closing. We were in the back of the bar, near the back door. I was getting ready to go up to my place and Ralph was going to lock the back door behind me. We were sitting on the pool tables, chatting, when we both saw a man walk through the front area of the bar. No one else was in the building. He was grey and I couldn't see much above his chest or his feet. The most noticeable thing was his arm swinging forward and then back, like he was walking with long strides. Then it was gone. I think he was in a uniform of some sort? Ralph and I then decided to have a couple drinks on the house and told each other for the first time what we had been experiencing in the building.

Things moved by themselves. You could set something down, turn your back and it would be in a different place when you went back to pick it up. Sometimes, it would be across the room. The thing that bothered me the most were the voices I heard all the time. It was strange- it sounded like a radio in an adjacent room tuned to a talk radio station. If you tried to listen to what they were saying, it would stop. I never could make out exact words. It was definitely people having a conversation and sometimes it sounded like yelling. The yelling seemed to sound the same, though, like it was always the same thing being hollered.

A lot of female customers asked if the place was haunted and didn't like the ladies room. We always said no or made a joke about it. I never saw anything or felt weird in the public bathroom, but it was right below my apartment. I have often wondered if that was from where the voices emanated.

The building is from the 1700's and has a sketchy recent past. Before my boss took over, the previous, long time owner had some wild renters and bar guests (it is a biker bar and has been for ages). There were a couple deaths by OD and at least one suicide in the apartments. I never researched the history of the building and keep meaning to do it. I do know there was Civil War action in town and the injured soldiers were cared for in the area where the bar is located.

I think my old horse haunted my old barn (the last barn he lived in).  I dearly loved that horse, he was my soul horse.  Someone gave me a horse after I put my soul horse Bo to sleep, and that horse was terrified of Bo's stall.  Deathly terrified of that stall.  Bo was awful to trap horses he didn't like in barn stalls when he was alive, hence I can't help but to wonder if that's why the new horse was afraid.  The new horse was a mean one, and I later found out that the former owner had suffered a brain injury because of him.  I got hurt several times too.  And the more that horse hurt me and the harder I tried to help him (acupressure, massage, etc) the more "something" scared him in that stall.  I eventually gave him away to a cowboy that got hurt by him too.  Unlike the person who gave him to me, I at least told the new owner the truth but he still wanted him.

Wow, that would scare the crap out me too. Definitely supernatural.

I was about to step off the curb and I hear ( although not audible) a voice , say don't step off the curb and with great urgency I might add. I've listened to this "voice" before with good results so I knew that I had better listen up. So I did. I wasn't paying particular attention to what I was doing at the time, you know sometimes you get wrapped up with the days events. I just stopped dead right on the edge of the curb. Just then two cars locked in road rage came barreling right in front of me and sped off. If I had of stepped off that curb, I would either be dead or badly maimed. I know people here about these kind of stories, but it literally happened to me. Listen to that inner voice. Definitely somebody was looking out for me that day!

Oh yes, the reason I listened to the voice? The 1st time I got a warning, I was in my late teens and it saved me from a purse snatching. I kept getting the feeling that I need to pick up my purse that I put on the ground to arrange my parcels that I had bought early in the day. It was only for a short time. The sensation was over powering to, PICK UP your purse. I ignored it at 1st, but it kept getting this message. Finally it was so strong that I thought I' d better pick it up. Just as my hand was going down, someone was trying to grab my purse, but I got it from them before they had a chance. A very close call indeed!.
