Hi,
I was wondering what eye drops are safe for cats?

My cat has very bad allergies. He is on allergy shots but still gets itchy eyes. The vet said any allergy eye drops will work, but I know I read something about some being unsafe but I can't seem to find the article.

I've been using lubricating eye drops but those don't help very much.

He is on lysine in case it is herpes, as he did have a uri as a kitten but that was many years ago. I think this is more allergy related as even on antihistamines he still itches like crazy which is why he is on allergy shots. Poor boy has to have injections every three days and is on allergy medicine morning and night.

Ideas? He is allergic to just about everything. I feel so bad for him. He wears a cone 24/7 as he is so itchy! The shots have helped. His sores have finally healed but his eyes still itch. He does have red crusts on the corner of the eye. No infection as far as I can tell. No squinting. Just sometimes they get red and itchy!

The vet says his eyes look fine but I still worry. Ever since he was a kitten he has had problems seeing objects that are close to him. He can see the laser across the room but not next to him. The same with finding treats on the floor. I think he needs glasses.

He is a very special cat! He has so many medical issues. I spend a small fortune between his urinary issues, special diets, and his medications.

I would also recommend asking your vet for a specific brand of eye drops, or seeing if there is something at the pet store specifically formulated for cats.

I'm assuming since your cat is on shots, you had allergy tests run? The reason I ask, is one of our cats (George) has allergy issues. He had blood drawn last week for allergy testing, but the results aren't expected for at least another week or two. It was promising to read that you have made progress with the skin issues, as George's allergy(s) present in his skin as well. In addition to the shots, I'm curious what medications your cat is taking so I can mention them to my vet if needed in the future. We won't know what path we'll be taking until after the results are back, but I'm arming myself for various scenarios.  We're hoping to at least get enough info from the results, to point us in the right direction....food vs. atopy vs. other, etc. We've been unable to decipher anything with a food trial and changing some things at home. Although if it is food, we've narrowed it down to where peas would be the most likely culprit. It's the only part of his diet that has not changed.

What do y'all think about vetericyn plus eye wash/gel? Made specifically for cats, dogs and horses. I've used this exclusively for said animals plus my chickens.
