Hi, made an account because I wanted some advise!

Two days ago I noticed a small round would on my cats shoulder with the immediate area cleared of  fur. it didn't appear to be bothering him, there was no pus or blood and it didn't smell. I cleaned it up and have been checking it everyday and its been healing fine.

Until today when I went to check it after dinner I noticed a SECOND larger wound a few inches below it.

I'm probably going to take him to the vet because I  have a heath plan so the visit is free.

I just wanted some advise from those wiser than I because it could be a few days before I can take him in.

Some other information, he is an indoor/outdoor cat, male, around 5 years old and has all his shots but he has never come home with wounds like this, only smaller cuts with no balding around the wound that healed in 3 days.

I might try to keep him inside for a couple days but he gets really unreasonable and starts peeing on peoples stuff.

This is the healing wound

This is the brand new wound

Thanks for any advise!!

Ouch, poor baby!  Generally i think the worry is going to be for infection but if you keep it clean, and perhaps use a little topical antibiotic cream he should probably be fine.  A vet visit, especially since its free for you (can i get on the same plan?!)  would be a great idea.

Since he goes outdoors, you want to make sure all his vaccines are up to date, and that he has the appropriate vaccines for an outdoor cat.  If he isn't microchipped, then your next vet visit could get that taken care of too, and i trust he is neutered?

Can you tell us how you got a vet plan that includes free visits??

He is on the banfield wellness plan. It includes free visits, one free bloodwork, teeth cleaning and shot discounts plus all kinds of other discounts unfortunately his special food isn't covered. The plan cost around $350, I got it because when he had an UTI a year ago, it saved us at least $150 up front and he needed dental anyway. He is neutered and still has his claws but isn't chipped (chipping is on the to-do list, he is a wanderer).

His last check up was two months ago, he got all his annual shots and a de-wormer. I've been washing them twice a day. My current plan is to keep him in during the nights and evenings.

I'm a little concerned it was the second cat that lives in the house that did it because he has been rather stressed recently and I haven't seen any new cats in the area; all the others don't come into our yard (the boys are very protective of their yard). But these two have lived with eachother for almost three years now without anything like this happening.

Thank you for your input, as is I'm taking him in Monday to get looked at.

Hmm it's weird what can stress a cat out.  Maybe something has changed that has caused your other cat to become stressed by him?  You might want to consider feliway spray and posting in the behavior forum.  Keeping him in at night will go a long way to keeping him safe :).  Good luck at the vet and good that you're taking him in :)
