So long story short, in the next months I want to do a sociological research about the role of pets and the way they change people's lives.
I am an assistant lecturer and have a phd in sociology. The idea to do this research was born some time ago and grew bigger in time. Initially I just wanted to see how Romanians relate to their pets, but the idea grew bigger in time.
First, Romania is dealing with a poor implementation of the law that legalized stray dogs euthanasia. It all started in 2013 when a boy was killed by dogs. But the boy was under the supervision of his grandmother who obviously did not supervise him and the dogs were not strays, they belonged to someone who kept them on a land that had no fences. So soon after the goverment legalized the euthanasia of dogs that were not adopted in 14 days. But people are barely allowed in the so called shelters, and the dogs are not euthanized, they are beaten to death or burned or burried alive or left to eat eachother.
So now, with a team of 30 students, we want to make a sociological research about the benefits of having a 'pet' - we want to talk to people who have pets, to vets and to associations or volunteers who rescue animals. We want our final work to be a social campaign that educates people about how wonderful life with an animal is. I also want to educate people on nutrition (the best here is considered Royal Canin, most feed Whiskas) and on other stuff like toxoplasmosis (women abandon their cats as soon as they, the women, get pregnant).
So any input, feedback, advice and critic would be highly appreciated.
