Please excuse these two questions and my ignorance, but this is the first time I've had a pregnant cat to take care of. She's a stray I rescued a week ago who was seen by the vet and has been wormed and has had her shots.

Doing a search, I couldn't seem to find the answer and would appreciate any replies.

My question: Is it normal for a pregnant cat to poop a lot? It's not a diarrhea-type, but the litter box has a lot in it each day, more than my neutered male cat has in his if left for a couple of days.  Is it because she is eating so much now? She's about 6 weeks or so pregnant.

My second question:  Is it normal for a pregnant cat to drink lots of water?  I thought perhaps that she has been dehydrated from living outside and not having access to lots of fresh water. I'd seen her drinking from puddles at times, but never much.

First - a pregnant cat was vaccinated ?? That is not recommend it can mean problems for the growing foetus. I'm very surprised a vet actually did this - I would be concerned !

As for a pregnant cat pooping more. Then yes they are eating more and what goes in must come out lol :lol3:

Drinking more - that depends on what food she is eating. If she's eating more dry food then yes this is normal.

Like above, I would think more food would do this. You might want to call your vet and get some advise over the phone, many are willing to do this. Thank you for taking in this poor little girl, you will surely be blessed! Good luck!

Thanks, GemsGem and Di and Bob.  I thought it was because of the extra food but wanted to make sure. She is eating a mix of wet and dry foods.  I've added kitten food to it as well.

GemsGem, I have a topic in this forum on the shot matter. I didn't know he was going to do that when I took her in. I had to leave her overnight because he wasn't there the afternoon I trapped her so I left her with the nurse. I had told the nurse I needed to know about FIV and FeLv and that she was a stray I'd been feeding, assuming he would call and talk to me the next morning since he takes care of my male cat and I know him,  which he did but did not mention the shots. He said he'd sedated her to give her an examination.  I even said I knew he could not give her the rabies shots. When I went to get her, he wasn't there as he treats large animals as well.  I learned she had also been wormed. I was, and still am,  very worried, but I  contacted another vet for a second opinion and the consensus was that she was far enough along that it shouldn't hurt the kittens, but that he wouldn't have sedated her to do all of this.

.
You are right and we were all a miffed and surprised that a vet would do this knowingly to a pregnant cat. There is an explanation and story to this matter. It is here in a thread in Ferals... http://www.thecatsite.com/t/275679/...ome-encouragement-and-support/30#post_3537899

and here in a thread in this forum http://www.thecatsite.com/t/275617/shots-given-to-pregnant-cat#post_3532423
