hi everybody!
Recently in a very rough apartment parking lot (I was there to see about a car) I noticed a cat walking crouched down and skittish. She constantly cried that awful 'where am I ?' cry.
As I got ready to go I noticed she was sitting in the middle of the parking lot just howling. It broke my heart.I know that tone of cry,she had no idea where she was. I asked the person with the car about her and she stated that she believes the family moved days ago and left her.The cat was an inside cat that got thrown out and left when they moved.
Seems this is a practice that is very familiar to the area.Over time the abandoned kitties eventually get rocks thrown at them or worse by the large number of teenagers and adults that congregate around there,Killed intentionally or unintentionally.Starved to death, wither away for lack of attention and shelter, or die of disease of infections. Some survive until they crank out tiny innocent kittens that if they survive the above, grow up to be victims themselves who start the cycle all over again.
Having my share of rescues,I knew I didn't want the extra headache and responsibility of another abandoned. But I went on my way WITH a terrified cat wrapped up in my coat.Could I have done ANYTHING else? Of course not.It wasn't until I picked her up that I noticed her weight. Now I knew why she was left.PREGNANT.What is wrong with these people. It must be easier to live with abandoning your family cat when she gets pregnant than to simply get her spayed. With all the discount spay centers it dosent even cost ,it is not out of reach. This is pure slothful and lazy behavior not to mention cruel and selfish.Im sorry if I've offended anyone that has perpetrated this type of behavior but...NO IM NOT SORRY....I hope I have offend anyone such as this lovely kitty's previous 'owners'.Shes such a grateful cat and her kittens are protected by a fearsome mom.I hope to find her a fur ever home along with everyone of her kittens( if I don't fall in love with all)after she's SPAYED.Does anyone have a good idea of the best time to start giving the kittens away? It's been so long since I've had kittens born here(6years)Thank for listening to my rant.I just get so frustrated with people that do this kind of thing.pictures are from today.

They need to be at least 8 weeks old minimum. Any less than that is way to young be be away from mom. But 10-12 weeks is best really :D

Orig.Does anyone have a good idea of the best time to start giving the kittens away?
Now, whatever you do, dont GIVE them away, so you yourself dont start the circle again.  For most people, what is for free is practically worthless.

Easier to get a new cat than put money for vet help to ones old cat, for example....

So, take always payment of some sort.  Always.  Let them at least donate some sum to some praiseworthy cause, IN THE CATS NAME.

One of the few exceptions is, if you give the cat as a priceless gift to someone, who takes the cat as a priceless precious gift.

And yes, at least 8 week, 10-12 is even better.

Good luck!

Another option if you feel uncomfortable taking payment is to offer to refund the fee once presented with proof the kitten has been spayed/neutered. Or donations to a worthy cause as StefanZ suggests.

Thanks for helping these cats!
