piglet had crown amputations performed on all four canine teeth less than 24 hours ago.  she came home yesterday evening and has been eating voraciously since.  i fed all three cats dinner when she came home and she tried to eat EVERYONE'S food.  then at our bedtime feeding, she ate very happily, purring the entire time, and ate pretty quickly.  this morning she attacked her food - just about three hours ago.  piglet came out of her carrier (apparently now her safe-zone) and started BEGGING.  she never begs.  she was sniffing around the normal feeding area, meowing and asking for food.  she was checking out my empty cereal bowl, which is a first in her 9.5 years.  piglet never eats people food (except for raw cookie dough or some types of ice cream, which is odd but whatever).  piglet doesn't like milk, cheese, butter, mashed potatoes, steak, pot roast, grilled chicken... i mean, nothing.  and she's begging for food.

piglet's taking buprenorphine and seems comfortable - she's up and around between naps, purring and nuzzling me, and she's used the litter box since she came home.  the vet dentist specifically mentioned that cats often don't eat a lot after surgery!  has anyone experienced this?  i'm just wondering if i should call the vet or not.  i don't free feed and piglet's on a no-kibble diet for at least ten days, but i've been giving her a bit more than i usually do.  she's not overweight at all, probably a bit under at this point, so i'm not too worried about the extra calories.  my momma instinct is to just feed her whatever she wants!

If she had to fast before the procedure, maybe she's making up for the caloric deficit.
Still if I were you I'd call the vets. As you may know, buprenorphine is an opiate, related to morphine--powerful stuff. Actually, one of the side effects is sleepyness.
Oh, the first dental (cleaning) Ritz had the vet said she probably wouldn't want to eat much but as soon as Ritz exited the cat carrier, she headed to her food bowl. OTOH, this time around with yet another dental procedure (two weeks ago), Ritz threw up four times before she could/would keep any food down.

If he had mouth pain prior to the procedure that was inhibiting his ability to eat, maybe he's making up for it now that he is pain free....A good appetite is rarely a bad sign but if he doesn't calm down in a day I'd call your vet.  If you're worried you should be able to do a phone consult now if you call your vet.
