Just wanted to know if anyone on here has dealt with a cat that has an ulcerated tumor. The vet said the cancer is also in her lungs so operating would be futile. I am trying to let nature take its course, but she has an opening about 2 inches wide and 3 inches long that is red and irritated and does smell. I have been taking her to the vet every 2 weeks for antibiotic injection to help any infection, and she does still eat a little and drink a little. She lost a pound in 2 weeks. I'm not sure how much more of this I can take. If I just heard from 1 person that they have been through this stage, and let me know what to expect, it would help.

Hi Jlee

I'm so sorry to hear this, so very sad.  I have not been through this specific illness, but I have lost cats to disease and its heartbreaking.  The most important thing you can do - and no one is better able to do this than you - is to make sure she is comfortable and to watch her, and be ready to give her the final gift we can give our animals, which is to allow them to be released from their illness with a Vet's assistance when the time has come.

She only understands today, and if today isn't good, and you know that tomorrow isn't going to be good either, then the time has come.  Until that point is reached, if she is eating and drinking and using the litterbox and appears not to be in pain, then enjoy her and share these moments with her.

Hi there, Yes I had a 7 year old girl who had mammary cancer. One day I was scratching her neck and I found a hard spot on her chest/neck/clavicle area, and 6-7 months later the cancer ulcerated to the same dimensions you describe.  I tried to heal her using holistic remedies because I didn't want to put her thru chemo/radiation and the vet said her cancer was too close to her lungs and nerves for surgery to be realistic.  It's such a hard area of the body to deal with an ulcer - it's not like a limb where you could bandage it.  There was no way to put a bandage on it without looking as if we were choking her, so we made her as comfortable as we could, and kept the ulcer as clean as we could. Tut I do want to let you know that about 3-4 weeks after the cancer began to ulcerate she was gone.  I'm so sorry and I will say a prayer for you and she, it's such a horrible time.  Best wishes....
