So my little friend zorro the cat has had a bad cut on his main pad of his right paw and has been seeing the vet for the past 2 months about it, after the stitches failed to hold the vet then decided to clean and pack the wound with cortisol and antibiotic cram and bandage it. And after 4 bandage changes of this routine the vet took the bandage off today and said it can stay off now. The pad is not bleeding but it is still very raw, moist and in the deep process of rebuilding/healing.

But he gave me some after-care advice that im not to sure about, he said to spray the wound with metholated spirits(i think its also called Denatured alcohol  in other parts of the world)  twice daily to help dry it out, now i made sure he definitely said metholated spirits and he confirmed "yes metholated spirits".

What do you guys think?

I also asked him if i need to clean the wound at all and he said no, just keep him indoors out of the dirt(he's an outdoor cat) but im going to keep him confined to my room where i can keep the floors and such as clean as possible.

When i do a google search on this i cant find much so i need some advice, what do you guys think?

Any help is much appreciated.

Hi,

I would do as your Vet says, but as rubbing alcohol (the common name for denatured alcohol) can cause pain in an open wound, I would be careful about how you apply it, and if he reacts in a way that suggests it hurts, call your vet for new advice.  Obviously if it were to get worse (or fails to get better) then I would contact your vet again.   In the USA we use a really amazing cream that is a combo of steroids and antibiotics called "Animax".  You might ask your vet about that as well.
