Hi I am new here. I am glad I found this site.I was driving along a country road on the edge of my town about 21/2 weeks ago. I spotted a kitten by the road on a snowbank with crows around her, pecking at her. I turned the car around and stopped expecting to find that she had been hit by a car, she hadn't been. She was crying and shivering, she was emaciated and soooo terrified. I talked baby talk to her and she was very vocal and started trying to come towards me. She had been laying in her own feces. I was cautious incase she was feral. She was so happy to see that I had stopped she slowly climbed into the car, eager to have been rescued.  I then saw that she had no tail, not even a stump. She wasn't bleeding that I could see, so I thought she must be a manx.

I took her home and gave her food and water and a litter box, I already have 3 cats. I called the vet and took her in. He was shocked at her beauty as she walked out of her crate. Upon being examined the vet said she was about 9 or 10 months old by her teeth, but was the size of a 5- 6 month old kitten. She weighed just under 5lbs. She had been slightly pecked around her anus and vulva. She was born without a tail. We knew she was an exotic breed but didn't at the time know which one. Her markings are gorgeous.  She had a bladder infection and we went home with antibiotics.

She didn't tolerate the antibiotics and was sick from them. I took her back the next day and she was given an antibiotic shot. I have found out since that this sweet little girl we called Aziza is a Bengal kitten with the mutation of a missing tail. She is incontinent with both her urine and feces due to the malformation. I am taking her back to the vet tomorrow for another urine test to make sure all the bacteria has been wiped out.

Aziza loves to play in water and will jump in a tub of slowly running water and wade around. She isn't afraid of the vaccum and when it is turned on likes to be vacuumed with the hose. She climbs up anything and can jump 6 feet without effort. She is gaining weight and very happy. I have to confine her to an area that is washable due to her incontinence. She doesn't know she is defecating but will turn around where it falls and look upset and will do the motions that she is trying to bury it. She constantly dribbles urine. I put her in the litter box and manually hold her arm and make her scrape the litter. About once a day I find that she is going in the box. I wish something could be done to help her out with her problems. Does anyone have any experience with incontinence with their cat and any helpful tips?

Hi! Welcome to the forums!

I unfortunately don't have any advice, but I am going to ask for your post to be moved to the Health forum where you can hopefully get more help!

Thank you SO much for rescuing this kitty.

Bless you for taking in this special needs baby, she sounds like a sweetheart. I'll pray that something can be done to help her. If not, can she wear a 'diaper' around the house? It might give her some freedom. I do feel for you though, it's going to be tough! Once again, thank you for helping her, she would have surely died if not for you!

Hi,

What a great rescue you have done and what a tough situation.  I've done some research on this issue and the answers I'm finding aren't very clear, but clearly this is going to take a vet's advice.  To the extent that this is treatable, it will depend to some extent on the actual cause of the problem, whether its nerve damage or something else.  My hope for you is that she gradually recovers some function on her own.  Please discuss this with your vet and in the meantime, perhaps someone with more experience with this issue will chime up.

I also suggest that you start a new and very specific thread in Cat Health, and make the title something like "Rescued cat has urinary and fecal incontinence".  And then put a short description of the medical problem in the message.  This will help to attract more specific answers.

Thank you rescuing this poor girl that someone has most likely discarded. :-(

Manx cats can have this incontinence problem due to no stump. I recently read a pretty long thread on that subject here on the forums. You might try a search on 'Manx' here on the cat health forum.

I'll see if I can find it, but I am using my phone and it is more difficult ...
