@elise1030, there is another long thread still active on this site called "My Experience With Blockages and PU Surgery" and it's on its third page now.  It would probably be useful for you to read the entire thread and learn from other peoples experiences with blockages, and what finally led to the PU surgery being necessary, and how hard it was on them to hve to put their cats through that, but in the end the cat was better off and finally comfortable and free of the CONE etc.  I hope you never have to go through that with Theodore, but knowledge is always a good thing, especially when you can learn from others' experiences.

I posted a link to the same thread in my post above. I guess the OP missed this or wasn't interested. Maybe receiving the suggestion from an 'Advisor' might prompt her to take a look.

I just went to Jenny's Facebook page. You obviously have a very special place in your heart and home for this wonderful cat!I had a litter of kittens from a pregnant stray I found, with severe problems walking .I was told that the mom had a sickness that had affected the kittens and was like cerebral palsy -to put them to sleep.i couldn't do it.They weren't all badly affected.Only one was put down months later because of convulsions and it broke my heart, but left 2that were pretty bad.The male Ricky- for Ricochet ( he bounce off things when he walked) stayed pretty much in my elderly mothers lap.The female-was better walking but after a year went into a strange coma and died.I think when Ricky, who was with us a few years, finally left us my mother was never the same. There wasn't a animal that gave us more joy than to give these babies the same chance at love and happiness than these 'Damaged' ones.Ricky an d Renee will forever live in our hearts and we will never forget the joy and lessons they gave us .You,sir, are blessed.:rbheart:

@Loopycann

Thank you for visiting jennys page, she loves new friends!  You were very sweet to rescue those cats.  They had cerebellar hypoplasia - a syndrome that affects kittens born to mothers who had distemper during the pregnancy.  Usually all will do fine, they call it wobbly bobbly disease and while there is no treatment, usually they live long lives, so its very sad that yours didn't and you have my heartfelt sympathies.  More info on this syndrome is at http://www.felinecerebellarhypoplasia.com/

Thank you for being such a great mom to cats!

Thank you for that information.Ricky did indeed continue to bless us but unfortunately the vet wasn't on board with keeping such kitties.I think Renee just caught something the vet didn't catch.as for the one that died early,he was so very sick when born .Again thank you for your support on this site and others.I can feel your passion for Jenny for my angels gave me that as well.God bless you and all the other wonderful advisors on here,We don't know what we would manage without Y'all !

Good. I thought maybe the suggestion of it had upset you? Glad to read that he is doing so much better.

No, you didn't upset me by suggesting the link. I guess I'm a little nervous about the next few days but I'm enjoying having my happy cat back!

Just an update on Theodore. It's been 4 days since he's had his catheter removed and I'm really pleased to say we've had no major issues so far. He's back to eating, playing and just being his usual charming self. He seems to be able to empty his bladder fully on his own accord. We had a pain issue 2 days ago so the vet advised us to give him microlone again and to continue the antibiotics. He did have what appeared to have a small amount of incontinence but it seems to have stopped now. I also figured out that he will drink out of a wide flat bowl(a pie dish). Maybe he doesn't like his whispers touching the edges when he drinks!

Halo my cat had the same problem and the vet told me it was his food... did you change his diet in anyway?to prevent him having the same problem? My cat is losing weight and it's getting to the point that I start to worry.

Yes, he's on the hills c/d prescription diet as well as small amounts of normal meaty wet food and plenty of water.

My husband has just visited the vet and he said small leakage is normal and it should return to normal. If this whole thing reoccurs, he will do the PU surgery. Everything is looking good at this stage though.

Glad to read that Theodore continues to improve! ...
The wide bowl is a good idea and its great that he is willing to drink from this .. The added moisture should make a big difference.

Okay, I'm a bit nervous that Theodore is going to block up again. He is starting to show signs that something is not quite right again. He's eating and drinking, and is happy enough to play but when he goes to the litter he's squatting and not really doing anything at all, then he gets out and starts licking furiously. My husband is keeping an eye on his bladder and says that it's getting bigger again but it's soft. He is also able to express the cat into the tray so he's not actually blocked but not really willing to wee on his own again. We're keeping tabs on him and at the first sign of really not being himself or pain, it's back to the vet we go.

I'm so sorry. Theodore was doing so well. It does sound like he's having bladder issues again. I'm glad your husband can express to empty him.

Prayers for Theodore!!!!

Hey you should try giving him raw food I just went through the same thing... I have dry food (specialty for urinary tract) but give my boy raw meat twice daily and also a water fountain and putting water throughout the house will work. After his operation and catheter he was eating bad never came home and hated me for forcing antibiotics down his throat... but giving raw food increase his water intake by 70%. I hope your boy will recover soon!!!

mine is almost 2 weeks away from the vet and struggling with food and going to the bathroom be strong and do all you can kitty's don't like leaving their home...

I trust your boy will be fine

I figured I should post an update! Theodore is back to square one after the intial blockage 28 days ago. The past week he hasn't been himself, still playing and eating but he was just "off". We noticed his bladder getting bigger and bigger over the last week and while it wasn't hard, the size was becoming quite alarming. He has been straining to use the litter, running back and forth and dribbling very small amounts on whatever he found on the floor. He visited the vet again this morning and she wasn't able to express anything out of him and he wasn't in a huge amount of vocal pain while she did it. Later today the main vet tried and while he could express, he wasn't happy with the amount and the bladder size. We were given 3 options, catheterize again, PU surgery or have him cross the rainbow bridge. We chose surgery as we feel that somehow the 2nd catheter may have caused issues. I don't really know if having surgery will help given he isn't blocked but for some reason he can't go potty. Antibiotics and corticosteroids helped temporarily.

We are at a loss.
