Friskies 5.5oz cans are on sale at Loblaws for 50 cents each, which is a very good bargain. But what about its quality? I know Friskies dry kibble is often considered a bad cat food, but are the cans any good? Meat by-products are usually the first ingredient, but I don't think by-products themselves is an extremely bad ingredient, but Friskies often has unnamed fish, or meats on the list too. Any thoughts on those? I don't think it has animal digest in it unlike other cheap brands like Special Kitty, which is pretty gross if you find out how it's made.

That's what I mainly feed my cats. I feel that it's better than just about any kibble. But it's not terrific. It does have artificial colors and flavors, rice, a lot of by-products. But it is high in meat protein, moderately low in carbs (about 14% for the pate flavors), and, well, it's wet :tongue2:.

Some flavors are better than others. You want to stick with the pate flavors because the chunks/shred, etc. all have wheat gluten. Poultry Platter has turkey (not by-products) as the first ingredient. Mixed Grill and Country Style Dinner don't contain fish (some cats have trouble with fish).

As mentioned, the Friskies Pate varieties are a decent budget-friendly canned cat food, and I feel are much better option than a dry diet.  Avoid the non-pate varieties (flaked, meaty bits, fillet, gravy, etc), as they're not of the same nutritional caliber (higher in carbs and other ingredients your cat doesn't need, etc).

While a little more expensive than the Friskies, the Fancy Feast Classic varieties are also decent. Watch for sales on those, too.

I have read that some of the Sheba varieties are decent too, but don't know which ones offhand.
