Does anyone know any products that can be applied to wounds that help with itching?
My cat Spot had a really bad eosinophilic granuloma (aka lick granuloma) on his lower stomach- well actually he had several. He was on Atopica before but had some "off" bloodwork results and surgery so my vet took him off it. (long story but he had surgery/biopsy to discover what it was but it came back after he healed from surgery-- if you want to hear more about it I can dig up the thread where I wrote about the surgery before.)
Recently we put him back on it and the granulomas have gotten a lot better. There's really only one now and it's shrunk to about the size of a quarter. However it keeps starting to get a harder, dryer layer over it as it tries to heal, but then he ends up licking it and causes it to become red and weepy again. A few times he even made it bigger by doing that. I think it may be itching while it tries to heal and so he keeps licking. I tried covering it but when he gets out of the covering he will lick it even more. My vet thought he might just be licking from habit. She put lavender essence (very diluted, food grade) on it and said that might help stop the licking but it didn't . The only way I've gotten him to not lick somewhat is by using a bitter spray on it and if it wears off he will lick again.
I was hoping to find something I can put on it that will help if it is itching and causing him to lick? Of course it needs to be something safe for him to ingest.
