Hi, there.

I've been looking around for large cans of cat food to simplify the feral feeding. I've found some online and in stores, but they are ridiculously priced and I always figure if it's good enough for the ferals, it's good enough for my housecats and vice versa... so, virtually impossible to feed all of them these foods. Does anyone know of any good canned food (middle-road quality) that comes in large sizes with pull tab openings? Thanks!

Hound & Gatos and Nature's Variety Instinct are the two that come to mind. Cheaper would be Triumph and then Friskies.

I use the WalMart "Special Kitty" large cans, 70 cents a can, mixed with a medium quality dry food (i.e. the primary ingredient is NOT ground yellow corn!) for ferals.  I throw in some good chicken fat and skin from my own cooking.  They seem to do just fine.

Friskies. 98 cents for a 13-oz can at Walmart. Special Kitty is cheaper but it looks nastier to me :tongue2:. I do buy SK sometimes though.

Higher quality but not too pricey would be Triumph, Dave's, Evo 95% chicken/turkey.

Thanks. I've been feeding them the Friskies. I tried giving them Evo, figuring it might be a good thing to give them once a week, and they really didn't care for it... weirdo kitty cats! I was ecstatic about it's label, too!

Mine now prefer the WalMart Special Kitty to the Friskies large cans.  Not sure why, they used to love the Friskies but suddenly started turing up their noses at it.  I always wonder if it's just a bad batch but I do listen and move to another food when they do that.  One cat might not mean so much, but a whole bunch of unfussy rescues?  They obvously know something I dont know.  I will leave some outside for ferals, raccoons & possums if its already open, otherwise I return it.

Some store brands are OK too. My cats particularly like Hy-Vee brand (I think about 85 cents for a 13-oz can) and the ingredients aren't bad, well, depending on which flavor. Grreat Choice (Petsmart brand) is decent too. I think it's 89 cents for the big can.
