The vet is definitely the person she needs to be talking to about this, unfortunately :( I am glad she is consulting with one.

I hope the kitty gets better!

It would take x-rays to determine where it is now, it must not be in his stomach since the vet did not use charcoal to make him vomit everything in his stomach.

Besides that, if he has lost that much weight, it must have happened a while back.

The guar gum turns to a glue like substance and cling to itself in a clump, or get stuck in his intestinal tract, which is very long and windy, and at some points gets smaller, which can be see through an x-ray or an ultrasound perhaps.

Once it is located clearly, it will quite likely require surgery for removal.

If he has lost that much weight, she really needs to help him soon!!

I'm so sorry for your friends kitty!

I never heard of a cat eating litter!!!
I wonder if he was craving something. Yes he need x-rays and most likely surgery. Definitely a vet. I'm surprised the vet didn't explain this or did they and she's just looking for anyone else who has been through this.

Please keep us posted. I just never heard of this. Yes cats ingest a lot of things but litter! Poor little guy! : (

Cats will sometimes eat clay litter if they are anemic; it's common in renal failure.  Sending many warm vibes!

Thank you Peaches I did not know that. It's something I hope to never experience but if I ever see my babies doing that I will know.

It's how I discovered my Grey (RIP) had renal failure.  I remember cleaning her litter box one day and thinking that her poop looked to consist of litter.  I put on some gloves and it did consist of litter.  I called and made an appointment with the vet and sure enough she showed up mildly anemic and stage 4 renal failure.  Yes she had been urinating more, but we thought it was food changes and her diabetes (she quit eating the lowest carb food and we switched to a slightly higher carb food).

I hope we here from the OP how the cat is doing.
