My cat Kitty is pregnant. She has about a week to go. Last night I noticed that she had a little white thing on her butt. And it was a worm! I believe it was a tapeworm. I guess she got fleas from my dog. Will the worms hurt the babies? I didn't even know my dog had fleas. I usually start giving her flea meds around the middle of april so I didn't expect them yet.

I will be seeing the vet next week but I couldn't get in today.

Also I didn't breed her on purpose. I wanted to get her fixed but we just kept putting it off and then she got out of the house when she was in heat. I'm going to get her fixed after the kittens are weaned.

I don't think it will do the kittens much good. The worms will be pinching the nutrients the growing kittens need.

But I'm very unsure about worming pregnant cats. I think some wormers are unsafe to use in pregnant cats but I'm really not sure on this. I think this is something you are going to have to talk about with your vet, about which wormer can be used in pregnant cats. :D

Definitely call and talk to your vet, you don't want to hurt the kittens in any way and it may be safer to wait after she delivers. From your description it is a tapeworm and they need to go through the digestive track of a rabbit to be harmful to you or your family, so don't feel threatened. ( I know I did, we SLEEP with our cat!
) Good luck and hoping for healthy, beautiful kittens!

Yes I'm sure your vet can advise you on which are safe for a pregnant cat :D

Good luck and do keep us updated on how your cat and kittens are getting on ;)

I will. I'm not 100% sure when she got pregnant. I didn't know she was in heat until there were a bunch of cats hanging around the house. I think it was around the beginning to middle of february. I noticed that she was getting a belly around March 5th. I made a box for her but she doesn't like it. She wants to stay under the crib in my son's room. I really don't want her to have them there though.
