My cat only likes dry food and just had lots of teeth pulled. What do I feed her?

My cat is 3 years old. She only likes to eat dry food and never wants wet food. My other cats love wet food but she won't touch it. She does like tuna, it's the only thing that isn't dry food she'll eat.

She just had most of of her teeth pulled, she only has her canines and the little teeth in between.

Her teeth were pulled yesterday, monday 04/01. I've given her 2 cans of tuna since bringing her home. I don't know how long it would be okay to feed her tuna.

Is there a dry cat food that would be good for her? Maybe something in really small bits. Is there a wet food similar enough to tuna that she might like it?

Once their gums tough up a little some cat wills just throw it in the back of their mouth and swallow. I had the same thing done to a cat and FWIW my Vet had us feed our him canned post surgery perscription diet for about a week or two so. Initially we had to thin it out but sounds like your cat is fine going after the tuna.

If the cat likes the perscription high calorie then maybe you can slowly convert to canned. When converting people will proceed slowly with just a little canned at first and increase gradually over a period of weeks and end up using toppers (sprinkled dry, crushed treats, bonita flakes, etc). It all really depends on the cat. Stopping free feeding will help with the transistion.

Tuna as you know is a no go as it's incomplete and lack taurine.

The trouble is not once her gums are healed, it is now during the healing process, which is basically during the first week.

After that she can eat whatever.

Ever see a cat's vomit? Dry food pieces, most are NOT chewed up. Cats don't chew much of the dry when they eat.

For now though, chicken only baby food, warmed in the microwave works excellent, because it's basically irresistible.

You can also add cooked white rice for volume.

I have had several cats with stomatitis and all of their teeth removed. They went from skinny ragged 5 pounders to fat healthy cats on dry.

Oh, I can also mention Royal Canin Babycat. Not kitten, but it is called Babycat.

Teeny tiny bits they LOVE! Very, very healthy as well. Be careful though, it is highly addictive, great taste! Formulated for weaning kittens, so you KNOW those bits are tiny.
