I am feeding 6 cats Kirkland Signature kibble and a variety of canned food. I was told that I need to switch in a bag of kibble of a different flavour once in a while to prevent them from developing an allergy to the main protein in the kibble they are eating now which is chicken. Is there any truth to this or what? Their canned food is chicken, Turkey, some beef and some fish flavours I rotate each night they get something different canned wise. Their kibble is Chicken/rice and that doesnt change only the canned food flavours do

I do think that cats are more at risk for developing food allergies when feed the same things over a long period time and continuously exposed to them. Perhaps this is why beef, chicken, fish, and grains are the top food allergens - they are in most foods. Certain cats are more prone to developing allergies than others. My parents' cat has been on the same food all her life with no issues.

I recently started a thread about food allergies: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/274500/best-rotation-to-prevent-food-allergies

I like this article from Dr. Jean Hofve: http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/knowledgebase/knowledgebasedetail.aspx?articleid=184
