Hello all,

My 83 year old father's 14 year old cat Abbey has just been diagnosed as diabetic. My father is in poor  health and unable to give her shots twice a day. My wife and I are unable to bring her into our home - we have two older cats ourselves. Abby is also starting to urinate outside (but near) the litter box, which is in the master bathroom. We're afraid my father might slip and fall in the night.

Does anyone know of anyone or anyplace in the Denver area that would be able foster Abbey? She's a sweet cat who needs some special attention.

I have tried calling the Cat Care Society and the Denver Dumb Friends League without any success. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Mark

Hi and welcome.

I am going to be very blunt, so sorry if it comes across as somewhat abrupt or harsh... it is not my intention.

First, this is an international forum.  It is very very unlikely that anyone here will be able to foster (you seem to really mean rehome, as this isn't meant to be temporary as far as I can see) your father's cat. It is also very unlikely that anyone here will be able to find better information than you about organizations in the Denver area... the best we could probably do is use google, which is something you can do yourself. I'm not saying someone here might not know something, but it's just not likely.

Separate from locational issues, there is almost no chance that anyone is going to want to take on a senior diabetic cat who needs insulin shots, especially on a permanent basis. This is true both of individuals and of shelters. While open access shelters will take her in, they will euthanize immediately.

Is there any way your dad could give her the 2 shots a day, or find someone to help him to do so? This sounds like her best shot to me.
